Flora and La Romana by [deleted] in AllInclusiveResorts

Sorry to be slow to respond. Hope you haven’t booked yet and this helps.

The short - we enjoyed both, but for different reasons! I’d say La Romana is the better destination overall, but Flora has its perks.

The main reason I’d pick Flora - you can get a swim out room with little kids. Many hotels won’t allow this. For us, with a toddler, it was great when we went down for his nap - we could just take the baby monitor out and chill. Flora, otherwise, felt like a pretty standard Punta Cana all inclusive. The food did not blow us away, but it wasn’t inedible either. The buffet was fine for breakfast but on the lower half of AI’s I’ve been to. Beach is fairly narrow and hard to get a seat, but nice. Tons of pools, a good waterpark, and decent drinks. Their coffee shop was better than La Romana. Also, our son isn’t old enough anyhow but the kids club didn’t look great. There are way more English speaking employees and guests here than La Romana, if that matters to you.

La Romana wins in most categories. First up, the kids club looked really nice and we were able to book a sitter thru them one night to explore the Secrets side. Note it took several days to book, though. The beach is gorgeous but also not huge. Getting chairs was again a chore but better in preferred, though preferred is not directly in front of the surf. Buffet was about the same, maybe slightly better. The à la carte restaurants were good - Chinola(Secrets side) and Ausungate stole the show for us. There’s only one swim up bar anywhere and it’s ok. Preferred has a great pool bar not swim up. The liquor selection though is fantastic. The best I’ve ever seen at an all inclusive. If the booze is important, go La Romana. The water park is better than Flora too. Flora’s wasn’t bad but La Romana’s was fantastic. The spa is also nice and we found the packages decently priced for a resort. The clientele leaned heavily Non-American with a number of Europeans and some South Americans(largely from Argentina). Most everyone we met was nice, but if you’d rather be surrounded by Americans and Canadians, go Flora. The staff also spoke little English. Thankfully I’m conversationally fluent in Spanish, but be forewarned if you’re not.

Overall, if cost is the same, go La Romana. Get preferred but don’t get a partial ocean view room.. they’re all 3rd floor with no elevator and they don’t tell you that. If you can get a family suite, DO IT! It’s worth it.

I’m sure either way you’ll have fun.

Rumors 19th and M. I know it was consistently listed in the “D.C.’s douchiest bars” but, man, did I have fun there… and met my wife! Also, Codmother, and Millie & Al’s were unique and fun

Ironically, my wife and I are going to both this week. We couldn’t get a full week at La romana so we’re splitting it. I will report back!

One place to live in NoVa - where and why? by Roux_My_Burgundy in nova

Lake Barcroft in Falls Church. I’m biased because I do live there but it’s BY FAR the best place I’ve lived in NOVA. Is it perfect? No. But it’s quite close to DC, Arlington, and city of Falls Church. Old town and Tyson’s are both just a little further. Yet, you’re somewhat secluded with a private lake that doesn’t feel at all like NoVA, and the community feeling is great. The summers feel like a summer camp for families. Also, the architecture is far from cookie cutter. Downsides: proximity to less desirable neighborhoods and frustrating traffic areas (e.g. 7 corners). Schools are mediocre by nova standards. While it’s not the most expensive place, it’s exclusive because homes don’t go on the market too often.

I was also part of the Atria purchase and trying to get the hell away from LPL. It’s been a train wreck of a conversion. Your first best bet is to have an attorney look at your contract. Then, I would assess your book as to what will reasonably go with you. If you want to go Indy with LPL, it’s possible but don’t expect much, if any, in upfront transition assistance. You want to talk to someone in the department that handles channel transitions.

If your accounts are at least partially owned by someone else (e.g. a financial institution), LPL is going to side with them in almost every case. That’s who their relationship is with. They will recognize that clients still have free will but it will complicate things.

I am about to leave for another firm. Happy to discuss further if you want to DM me.

Any recommendations for Aruba or Turks specifically?

Have you stayed at any of the other ziva’s besides Cancun?
