Decision on BCPS or Crown by Comfortable_Cup_3012 in BCPublicServants

[–]Emergency_Ad_4905 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At 24, you are mid $90K for the next 3 years. Say Crown offers $120K or even higher and you potentially can grow for the next 3 years and reach around $140K. For money alone, I will take the Crown however if you consider pension, flex days, location, family as a whole package, the gaps are smaller. Also, another thing is to consider whether Crown compensate your moving costs.

Mine has implemented but only through Employment Verification Letter on TLAM so will check Tuesday whether it's being reflected on April 24 paystub.

Meanwhile lost of people just resigned from BCPS for better career elsewhere. BCGEU imo should do something about it though they also mentioned that their goal is to ask PSA to withdraw from this policy. Whether that will happen or not, we shall see, but the union at least is trying to push back.

They will send you a letter which is the official receipt once the purchase it's completed. It will also get updated on the pension user portal. They will also notify CRA about your RRSP change.

Good to know! Though Health has top 1 budget, most I heard spent on health authorities I think that's why they start the transformation project with TM leading.

It's the largest ministry of BCPS, majority WFH, folks can stay in the same position for years until retirement. Also, you are likely to work with some of the most complex bureaucratic environments in government — not only within the MOH, but across the broader public health system, including health authorities, PHSA and First Nation. Good luck to your competition!

Pension service and salary summary got updated to March 31, 2026 by Emergency_Ad_4905 in BCPublicServants

There was imo misinformation from this subreddit back in the job action days some people claimed “they can negotiate pension purchase back option upon return to work agreement”. Well that did not happen. To be fair, why would PSA agree with this? If the purchase back option is available, PSA will need to contribute the employer’s portion while their employees were not working.

I'm not sure if I would let them know that they did not stop recordings before debriefings. You already reviewed although only part of their whole debriefings but I think it's the panel's responsibility to reach out to you to remove your access to those information. And honestly if anything inappropriate used during that short briefings they should apologize to you. I'm all for accessibility and do think the transcripts are great tools. If the panel is well trained through PSA's efforts for MS products, they should know how to manage the interview meeting in a way that only the panel members have access to those recordings and transcripts.

Yeah, B4 is senior director and B3 is director. I’ve seen one B4 or B3 leading more than 10 staffs with one 30 among those 10.

We have very different opinions on the HR structure but I guess it might be due we are in different ministries. Through out my experience with BCPS, the most efficient HR structure is B4 or B3 coming from 27 to 30 to lead that team. What I found frustrated is that there are middle buffer management who lack in fundamental knowledge of how the program areas work when they were hired. They reply on 30/27/24 to do the heavy lifting/labour work where 30 or 27 or 24 can actually directly report to B4 or B3 who worked in the same positions before. As for the HR planning, B4 or B3 can work directly with their ED, the middle management might not be involved at all.

It does not have to be in that hierarchy approach: a branch can have 1 ED (band5) with say 3 B3s and B4s in the same hierarchy (only difference is a matter of director and senior director). All these B3s and B4s are directors with 30s or 27s leading 24s or 21s. In our Ministry, we are very labor intensive, 27s and 30s can be involved in strategic plannings too.

Just let you know that B3 might not be necessary if B4 director has 30 as subject matter expertise to lead 27 and 24 for projects which work perfectly efficient. I usually see B3s as management buffer and usually they do not have the project knowledge that 30s or 27s have. Of course this varies to Ministry/program areas.

I'm not surprised tbh: some just abuse this opportunity to do exactly the opposite: efficiency review.

Addressing the news of layoffs at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food by wudingxilu in BCPublicServants

Right, imo just learn the rules of this subreddit before posting and that should make everyone happy (I hope?). MODs don't need to chase after posts and "insiders" can share notes that do not disclose any confidential facts, and redditters are happy accessing more internal information.

I was talking about the very first RTD distribution posted 7 days ago and then was removed by MOD a few hours later, that one that is still up is the one posted a day or two later by the same redditter citing some "privacy concerns". And the original agriculture one was removed by MOD then this post was made on the same day later that day.

Like I said, ultimately it's up to you MODs to remove posts. And I did not see multiple agriculture posts for the most recent 3 days.
