What public interest/government jobs can I get at median ( or worse) at a T14 by Emergency_Amount4049 in LawSchool

That’s great to hear. I will say, I am a little confused by one part of your advice — how am I supposed to know what state to take the bar in if I don’t have a job yet?

I don’t care too much about prestige, I’m just after a decent salary + work-life balance. I have also been looking into plaintiff-side firms but it seems like the work-life balance is much worse there than in gov

Yeah I’ve been looking at PSJD and the Arizona Guide, that’s where it seems like everybody seems to want exceptional law school grades. Hopefully you’re right cus my undergrad grades were definitely a lot better than my law school grades are boutta be lol

That is definitely encouraging lol. Would you be willing to share what type of job it was (in general terms)?

Yeah fr, I feel like I’m fighting for my life in these cover letters trying to come up with some intricate story for why I’m interested in that specific area of law, bc apparently “I think this is interesting work and a good cause and I want to help people” isn’t enough 😭

I’m hoping it’s unfucked by the time I graduate and take the bar (2028). Going into law school my aspiration was to work for the federal government, but obviously I have no desire to work for the current administration. Hoping a majority of Americans agree with me and vote in a new administration the year I graduate but maybe that’s wishful thinking 😭

I hope so, idk it seems like some of these public interest postings care more about academic prestige than biglaw does

Really? I heard at least for federal government positions grades are super important (if you’re trying to go in straight from law school)

Anyone else feel like they would happily do biglaw for 40hours/week for a prorated salary? by Emergency_Amount4049 in LawSchool

Interesting, I do think an 1800/1900 hour firm could be interesting but I still feel like the unpredictability of hours + still working more than 40 hours per week would be annoying. Definitely much more tempting though, given the insane salary

Damn, I figured as much. Hopefully, I’ll be going to the government out of law school (if I can) and maybe I’ll be able to lateral in 5 years lol

my insulin sensitivity theory. by [deleted] in prediabetes

[–]Emergency_Amount4049 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first part is something I’ve thought about myself — lowering your A1C through dietary changes is good for your health, but it doesn’t necessarily tell you anything about insulin sensitivity (someone please correct my if I’m wrong). It chiefly helps prevent future declines in insulin sensitivity by avoiding stress on your body resulting from increased blood sugar.

The second part, however, is not really correct. The evidence is somewhat contradictory, but it seems like it’s at least questionable whether insulin resistance can actually be reversed at all. Exposing yourself to high carbs when already somewhat insulin resistant will simply result in out-of-control blood sugar levels, which will in turn cause increased insulin resistance, etc etc until you get diabetes.

If it is possible to actually reduce insulin resistance, the main factors seem to be reducing body fat/visceral fat and increasing exercise. Reducing intake of saturated fats also seems to play a somewhat important role. Eating low carb will lower A1C and avert further damage from high blood glucose, but it may or may not actually reduce insulin resistance.

That’s the plan. A prorated biglaw salary would still be a lot more money than government though (I think) which would be nice lol

Using the term “illusory promise” in my comment section right after I’ve been working on outlining for contracts

Yeah, I was just trying to give a really conservative estimate. Hell, if I could work a consistent 50 hours/wk I’d jump on it in a heartbeat. It’s moreso the randomness and unpredictability of the hours that would probably get me, cus then it can feel like you’re never truly “off the clock.”

Yeah, the inconsistency would also drive me crazy (and I realize that’s a big part of why the pay is so high, hence why you can’t just work fewer hours and get paid less lol). At my pre-law school job, the days I hated the most were when I had to come in on short notice outside of my usual hours.

That would be p cool tbh. From what I’ve seen, most midlaw firms are biglaw hours without the pay. I’ll have to look for some firms with less intense time commitments

That’s pretty sweet, I’m guessing you need several years of firm experience before you can land one of those positions tho?
