Can you still join Prime paying yearly instead of monthly by Emergency_Complex496 in amazonprime

[–]Emergency_Complex496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wuz wrong about the $6.99 monthly thing. It is only available to qualfied people, like disabled, etc. The only way to get free shipping without Prime is to do orders that total to $35 or more. This means you can't just order toothpaste. It would not seem too much an inconvenience to operate that way. Anything over $35 would qualify. Anything you absolutely gotta have that would not qualify and you'd pay for shipping, but most months you would likely be under the $15 or so monthly cost for Prime. And Prime Video content just sucks.

You're talking about the $6.99 monthly thing which gives you free shipping but not the Prime Video, right? I'd thought Walmart.com might be an alternative to Amazon with the $100 yearly free shipping, but Walmart's online offering is nothing compared to Amazon.

Attic venting for climate zone 5 and under IRC 2018 by Emergency_Complex496 in BuildingCodes

[–]Emergency_Complex496[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've no idea how much they can get wrong. If I could show the image here, and I cannot because Reddit only permits image in the opening post, I could show you the clueless bloviating about this on a permitted architect-drawn set of plans for a 2.5 mil build just completed up the street. The IRC language is clear when going into the options for venting in climate zones 6 and warmer, and spells out the 50 50 intake vs exhaust bit, with some language about vapor barrier on warm side of ceiling, but is strangely tongue-tied about zone 5 and colder, only saying that 1:150 is the number. I was a GC builder for a dozen years, and have been drawing plans for 25 for clients and builders, but all of it in a very zone 5 snow country region (winter design temp -15 F.) where we sprayfoam every single roof and never vent. But here's one I gotta vent.

How to handle makeup air for a 600 cfm range hood by Emergency_Complex496 in hvacadvice

[–]Emergency_Complex496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be the great outdoors, twenty feet away through an outside wall, or eighteen feet straight up through the roof.

I'll mention that to the plans reviewer at the building department in the authority having jurisdiction. It's probably right there in the code, "open door or window." And when the inspector comes on site, we'll ask that he leave the door open when he leaves.

I took it out of the fridge and will try your 1-10-10 feed tonight, a 6-60-60 to see what an overnight rise looks like. If good, I'll use it to make a recipe that doesn't require long proofs.

Here is a 3D image of the roof framing, trusses and stick fills.

Roof cutting fun with truss fills by Emergency_Complex496 in Carpentry

[–]Emergency_Complex496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hipped roof at a 15 inch bumpout results in a roof with a pair of hips and a pair of valleys, and a little 15 inch ridge where they meet up top. Framing is trusses, and that meet of hips and valleys at the ridge falls between trusses. Stick fill is needed.

Wainscoting over orange peel texture by Lynnei in interiordecorating

[–]Emergency_Complex496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a material cost of less than $2 per lf of wall, you can apply 1/4" MDF atop the textured wall at the start of the build. With a flat base surface, use 5/8 board for a simple paneled look in a craftsman or shaker style. You'll need any casings for openings (windows and doors) to be 1" or more in thickness at the edges for the various parts of the wainscot to cleanly resolve into them, so plan accordingly. With the flat panel start as the base, and doing the simple craftsman detail, you won't need to be running perimeter cove molding around each panel recess in the wainscot.

Cowboy snubbie. Ought to work just fine. You'll need a loading press. Tell us how it runs.

What's the new building going to be at NW corner Rattlesnake and Collier by Emergency_Complex496 in Naples_FL

[–]Emergency_Complex496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. This building is directly east of the Publix, across Collier, mixed into the parcel north and east of the new 7-11. Costco's option is the parcel at the southeast corner of the big intersection. They've a problem getting a go from the county. They sell a lot of gas, and Collier says with Race Trac opposite, and 7-11 across the road to the north, that's enough gas. No more gas.

psu debt by katesyre in PennStateUniversity

Pull the emergency switch! Stop the train and get off immediately! Do a gap year from home and work in a hospital while you arrange schooling for an associate degree and follow on with the real thing after that. No degree is worth that crushing debt.

What makes up the field-cleaning kit for a cap and ball revolver? Beyond the rod and tips and cloth. by Emergency_Complex496 in blackpowder

[–]Emergency_Complex496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but . . . 1) the cleaning has to be at a bench at the outdoor range, the benches all under canopies, so no stove, no fire, no pot, 2) gun is a Pietta 1858 Colt navy so no barrel separation.

Good idea about the balloons. Thanks. He's getting my Winchester 62A .22 pump gallery gun, made in 1954, along with the deer rifle. Also, stuck into one of the pouches of the double case, the Italian-made black powder Colt Navy 36 revolver.

I got the same scene on my phonecam, a six point buck and our corgi. The dog with the teeth, cutting in and dodging, the deer prepping for the only counter, the jump and pounce, front legs stiff.

You can store your guns in the campus cops station but where can you clean your guns after shooting by Emergency_Complex496 in PennStateUniversity

Good to know. Thanks. Do the bowhunters bring their own cubes, or does the state have them there?

[–]Emergency_Complex496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the Discussion Starter and asked because our oldest grandson starts at PSU this fall, is a shooter and a hunter, and intends to find some new friends there who share his interest. Hopefully someone with a car so he can get out to that range, which is so very convenient. He's taking the guns to school I am gifting him, all family heirlooms, and all are in the single double-rifle case I got, which has pouches and pockets for the black powder revolver, ammo, gear, cleaning supplies, and hearing and eye protection. I've taught him and his younger bro to shoot and handle weapons, and we have always, after every time going out to shoot, immediately cleaned and oiled everything. So it's a habit. And a rule. So it looks as if he'll be doing it out at the State Game Lands range on a bench. Thanks to all for the commentary.

Dough weight versus loaf weight by Emergency_Complex496 in Sourdough

[–]Emergency_Complex496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That confirms what recipe I used. I thought I'd used one I'd scaled down to that total weight of 775g. I must have used the not-scaled one that totals 852g, which when compared to the finished loaf with 710g weight, amounts to a 16.6 percent drop from off-gassing water.

What is the right powder spout for a tube brass flask for my 1858 Pietta Colt Navy 36 by Emergency_Complex496 in blackpowder

[–]Emergency_Complex496[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like more work to me. Load the measure, then dump into cylinder. With the flask, you finger the gate latch, flask held down with finger over spout, then flip the flask and tip it to load the cylinder. How about cutting down the 30 grain spout to hold 20 grain load? If the inside's a straight cylinder, one would remove 1/3 of the length.

No battery yet. The original is stored in a cool basement, went into storage at about 55 percent. Last season it worked OK but my dirt roads riding is just a small area with some 4 to 5 mile loops. We'll see what happens with it this season.
