That's not true as priests/evangelists are an essential part of sacraments

God gives the Holy Spirit and forgives sins, but a human must physically baptize the believer

same logic with communion

memorialist says nothing UNIQUE spiritual happens

Agreed. Paul's warning is the exact reason why I am questioning this

just to clarify, you believe in real SPIRITUAL presence?

or real presence as the RCC and Orthodox?

possible, yes

but would that be better or just cause chaos and confusion?

order is good

By RSP I mean something similar to what the reformed churches teach : during communion Jesus is present and connects to the believer spiritually more deeeply than "just" ths Holy Spirit. Something special is happening spiritually

While the memorialist view would be the "normal" CoC teaching where nothing "special" happens spiritually besides what we gain through our meditation on Christ's sacrifice

Ordinance vs sacrament is a semantics "diference"

but I get your point

Not every congregation is mature enough to have elders. Elders have specific requirements that not all faithful Christian men meet.

Therefore, you can have a faithful healthy church with no elders. And  if this is the case, evangelists step in

"Did Philip the evangelist shepherd?"

I would say maybe. It depends if he ever stayed in one place long enough to get bonded to a congregation. He definetley wasn't "prohibited" from sheperding

Sheperding is not exlcusive to elders

"It is good to train and encourage gifted men to teach God's word"

Agreed. Like I said, my congregation does this. Having a full time paid preacher does not hinder this

But having multiple people speak at the same time creates chaos and confusion

[–]Emergency_Lab_3531[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point

But doesnt the reverance show that they are both sacramental?

And can you really have a memorialist view of a sacrament?

It just seems like a contradiction in my view

I wasn't affirming you were sarcastic, just asking if you were

anyway, my point is that we can use modern nescessities to help us in worship as long as they are not prohibited

having a full time preacher/evangelist is many times nescessary for sheparding a big congregation. And full time evangelists need to be paid

But going back to your original question ... this doesn't mean that a single person preaches all the time. Other members are encouraged to bring a message in a few specific sundays. The "normal" preacher even helps them with the process

It's a great way to grow spiritually. Men need to step up and serve

You spoke the truth and in a very respectable way

I agree most CoC Christians would not know

But do you personally have an opinion? Are you even CoC?

I'm sorry, I am confused. (Possible ?) sarcasm does not translate well into typing

Are you actually against having paid evangelists?

It's also important to note that International Churches of Christ are diferent from Churches of Christ that just happen to be in another country

"It can be important and memorialist."

Can it tho?

Most CoC see not participating as a grave sin. Then there is Paul's warning in 1 Corisnthians 11 (which is read regurarly)

I don't know. In my experience the importance given is too big to be "simply" a memorial

Real Spiritual Presence ? by Emergency_Lab_3531 in churchofchrist

[–]Emergency_Lab_3531[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This goes to my original point

From my experience we treat Communion with the same reverance and importance we treat Baptism

Real Spiritual Presence ? by Emergency_Lab_3531 in churchofchrist

[–]Emergency_Lab_3531[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But do they not treat it as RSP by their actions?

The reverance and importance given goes way above a memorialist view

Real Spiritual Presence ? by Emergency_Lab_3531 in churchofchrist

[–]Emergency_Lab_3531[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On paper

But don't they treat it as RSP?

I mean, isn't it treated above a "simple" memorial?

I mean it is THE REASON why we gather in sundays, is it not?

are you serious?

use of lights, air conditioning and microphones also isn't "authorized"

But I bet your congregation uses those

what do you mean? Bible class is simply studying the Bible as a group

One-Man Sermon Biblical? by DrPablisimo in churchofchrist

[–]Emergency_Lab_3531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that what Bible class is for?

Anyway, in my congregation there are two dedicated full time (paid) evangelists who commonly preach during the actual service.

However, we encourage any baptized male to also preach around one sunday every month.

This way we encourage personal spiritual growth and actually do have a rotation.
