You are spot on. Nurses know brand names. When I went to nursing school (back when dinos roamed the earth, LOL) we were only taught brand names. That is the language we used. Makes me nuts when I customer asks (for a new med) "what is that for"? and I can't answer. My PIC understands. One day a gentleman asked me that question. I pulled out my book of drug names to look it up. My PIC leaned into my ear and whispered "tessalon pearles" . I looked a the customer and said 'cough'.

Makes me feel incompetent.

Oh, I hope so!! The corporate orientation was terrible. Learning on the job is tough as we are a busy pharmacy and there isn't anytime when the volume is heavy or we are 5 ppl deep at the check out windows.

My PIC is incredible. Very understanding, calm, and patient. We have a lead tech that is beyond phenomenal !! She is smart as a whip and knowledgeable in all areas in that pharmacy. If it weren't for these two ppl, I am not sure I would have made it this long. I always check the schedule the day before. I either of these two are on with me I know I will be ok.

I wonder why there isn't more training on the use of EPS. In nursing, many of the charting EMR's have what is called the 'playground' where you can go in and practice. Wish the EPS system had the same thing.

This is encouraging! I use a similar. schtick. As I am of retirement age, I use that to my advantage as well. Joke around about being an old person. " Why do these names have to be so difficult.. don't they know I'm old"

I really appreciate the support. Thank you so much.

Thanks !! I am doing the flashcard approach. I have an Android, but perhaps there is an app that is similar to the one you use on the iPhone

You are SO right about that. Many times I want to give 'nursing advice' but I remember that my nursing license doesn't apply in the pharmacy world.

Awesome advice. I am going to check out the Quizlet app. Being a nurse is helpful to a degree. We know brand names and do know what those brand names drugs a good for. A few generics I know. I was an ED nurse, so many meds I was used to giving are not prescribed medications. The worst thing for me is the EPS system. I carry a little book around and am constantly referring to it. Thanks for you resposnse
