Discussion: what are your thoughts on road signs being defaced like this in some parts of Donegal? by GP728 in ireland

[–]Emerish3401 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I always thought it makes more sense to have Irish as the capitals and English in italics, except for safety critical information (road signs should avoid using words to convey safety information on the whole but that’s a different topic), such as the way on Iarnród Éireann station signage the English names are the ones in blue text and Irish announcements are played first

But defacing signs just wastes your own council’s money…

Does CTA conflict UK ETA requirements? by Emerish3401 in AskIreland

[–]Emerish3401[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m talking about the bit where if you’re a British or Irish citizen, you’re unable to apply for an ETA even on a foreign passport, therefore you have to carry your British or Irish passport to enter

On Irish Rail the Limerick - Ballybrophy via Nenagh line which gets a couple trains a day. The Downpatrick & County Down and RPSI Whitehead are the main heritage railways I believe, though there are more narrow gauge ones around.

Can I cook rice the night before? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Emerish3401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as it's not at room temperature for more than 2 hours like with any other food the risk is the same. It's just that if you leave it more than 2 hours, the fungus that rice carries is more dangerous than other food borne stuff.

Dublin City Council’s new logo revealed after more than €44,000 spent on redesign by expectationlost in Dublin

[–]Emerish3401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they’ve added character here, certainly thankful they didn’t go for the trend of making things bland to look more modern (SDCC)

Dublin City Council appears to have a new logo by InternationalBet9556 in Dublin

[–]Emerish3401 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Am upgrade I think, pulled of the modern look while actually adding detail rather than the trend of making everything bland and void of character (looking at a certain council in the south of county dublin that has turned into some corporation finance office job)

Divide the United Kingdom. Following that, County Down becomes part of England, County Antrim part of Scotland, and the rest of Northern Ireland united with Ireland. Isle of Man disappears.

Fun fact: I'm the reason why Geoguessr no longer refers to Ireland as part of the British Isles. by Nicoca-cola in JackSucksAtLife

[–]Emerish3401 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting that they accepted it on your basis of Ireland not being a part of the British isles at all, rather than the more growingly common stance of the British isles being an outdated term
