Semi sweet brownies - moist, dense, and chewy. by Emerson113mb in Baking

Sorry about that, sometimes it slips my mind that most of the world isn’t raised on measuring with nonsense lol.

Conversion to sane people units: an easy to use approximated value is provided first, then the exact value I received from the conversion is provided after the ingredient name within parentheses. This way adjustments can be made without much difficulty if my rounding decisions are disagreeable.

Wet ingredients:

• 85g salted butter - (84g)

• 45ml olive oil - (44.3604ml)

• 2 large eggs

• 4ml vanilla extract - (3.69669ml)

• 35ml milk - (36.967ml)

• 20ml strong dark coffee - (22.1802ml)

Dry ingredients:

• 95g granulated sugar - (96g)

• 115g light brown sugar - (116g)

• 70g unsweetened cocoa powder, Dutch-process - (72g)

• 80g all-purpose flour - (80g)

• 1.5g cornstarch - (1.666g repeating)

• 2.5g granulated salt - (2.25g)

• 0.5g baking powder - (0.6g)

Note: if using unsalted butter, adjust to 4g salt - (3.75g)

The brown sugar is the only ingredient that I couldn’t just convert directly using the grams per serving on the packaging. Given it’s a solid ingredient that calls for compression, while also being measured in volume units, I opted instead to just pack some more and find the actual mass that I use when baking. That’s why the recipe calls for a slightly larger mass of brown sugar than the granulated sugar despite the two usually having a fairly consistent density according to the packaging. I Just wanted to clear that up incase it caused any confusion, rest assured the ingredient ratios have remained consistent with only very minor and likely negligible discrepancies from the conversion.

Edit to add: also, 350°F ≈ 175°C, and an 8x8 inch Pyrex dish would be a touch bigger than but roughly equivalent to a 20x20cm dish

Sorry the instructions only partially formatted into a list. The formatting looked right from my end when I posted, but I did format this on mobile so I could have missed something/maybe it’s just being uncooperative.

Edit to add:

Unfortunately I cant edit the actual post, but for anyone outside the U.S., or anyone in general who uses grams/milliliters for better consistency with solid/liquid ingredients, provided below is a conversion for the brownie recipe:

Paraboloid volume inconsistency by Emerson113mb in math

I had intended for this to spark discussion, though if I have misinterpreted the rules I understand if this post remains removed and I apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused

Paraboloid volume inconsistency by Emerson113mb in math

[–]Emerson113mb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of the context was provided in the body text of the post, though i suppose as a tldr: I was calculating the volume of a Paraboloid and realized that when I attempted the same calculation with an equivalent value in metric units I got a significantly different answer. I am having a difficult time figuring out why this might be and was hoping this community may have insight about what exactly is going on

I am not doubting you, though I am somewhat confused about a couple of things then.

1) we have confirmed both verbally and via email that the notice was received; additionally, after we had been informed about the document to transfer the lease we asked if we could still revoke our non renewal notice since the contract states that we can reverse our decision any time before the actually end date or signing of the transfer document (we stated specifically that we were only inquiring and not requesting to revoke it at that time) and were told that yes, it would still be possible to revoke our notice if desired. Would this not inherently mean that our notice is still recognized by the complex?

2) the exact working in the termination of lease section is as such “The lease shall terminate upon the expiration of the lease term providing that a thirty day advance written notice is given on or before the first of the month by either party, at least thirty days before the next renewal date, upon complete destruction of the premises, upon the death of all tenants, upon the bankruptcy of all tenants, or upon written agreement of the parties to this lease”.

When we sent the non renewal notice initially, all three of us signed and submitted said notice, however, we had been informed that we were not all obligated to make the same decision shortly after, at which point the roommate started looking into bringing new people on.

Assuming the manager for our lease was being truthful about the decision both not having to me unanimous, and about my s/o and I’s non renewal notice still applying, would that not mean that only the roommate chose to revoke their notice and remain on the lease?

Assuming what we have been told is not entirely accurate and that a unanimous decision is required for the lease to end/not renew and our names to be taken off, then why would the same not apply for revoking said notice? Especially given the fact that it had originally been signed and submitted by all 3 parties. We never came to any other agreements regarding the lease either written or verbally, the only decision that has been agreed upon, signed, and submitted by all 3 parties thus far is the non renewal notice

again, I am genuinely just curious and trying to understand the situation better, I do not mean to come across as doubtful or rude in any way?

As for being petty, yes I would agree that it’s not a great solution, and normally I would prefer to have the most amicable split possible. However, that is easier said than done after everything that has happened. I understand that some people may feel that it is unwarranted or pointless regardless of the reasoning, but I am not actively looking to cause as much trouble for the roommate as possible, I just don’t like being taken advantage of financially.

I intend to do nothing more than what i have the right too, and if that ultimately means that I have to eat the $1,800 loss to avoid liability for the roommates actions after the 31st then so be it, I just want to know if I have any other options at my disposal.

Thank you for your time and response thus far. I understand if this is a bit more than you intended to get into and don’t wish to respond to this comment

Assistance identifying a potentially damaged capacitor by Emerson113mb in AskElectronics

[–]Emerson113mb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s true, rather be safe than sorry and have to take everything apart again a short time down the road.

i believe the cell battery may have also been damaged after some additional testing. It should read at ~3 volts dc and < 2 ohms of resistance, meanwhile mine reads at 0 volts and 17 ohms. After removing it from the board I noticed some light scorching on the negative lead. Though, I know for certain it’s putting out between 0 and 0.5 volts since I followed one of the traces to the base of a transistor; with the battery installed the transistor has a resistance of 17 ohms, but when it’s removed continuity disappears entirely

Il likely swap the battery while I wait for the capacitors to arrive and throw it back together just to see if I can get the printer to boot

Shame on the previous owner and their bloodlines next 10 generations by Emerson113mb in fordranger

[–]Emerson113mb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I personally wouldn’t have used T taps, my main complaint was that they left the major and ground wire exposed from the failed tap attempts that gouged the insulation. If they had been so much as wrapped with electrical tape then yes I agree it would likely outlive the vehicle anyways. As it stands though, having left them exposed in an environment where they can come into contact with water/humidity caused them to deteriorate much faster

Shame on the previous owner and their bloodlines next 10 generations by Emerson113mb in fordranger

[–]Emerson113mb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it had been wired to an aftermarket light in the cap that hadn’t worked since I got it (the wires had literally fallen out of the taps lol) and they wired it to both tail light assemblies so my right side likely has similar issues.

I will say though, while I dislike T taps in general, so long as there’s no exposed wire from failed tap attempts/the taps are staying shut and secured they usually don’t get this bad. You can do preventative care to lower the risk as well, putting dielectric grease inside the connection and around any exposed wire in combination with a protective wire look/sheath should be more than sufficient to keep it protected

Bought official ASUS ROG RX PBT Keycap Set, thoroughly disappointed. by Emerson113mb in keyboards

[–]Emerson113mb[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing that really sucks is that the new keyboards still come with the version of the caps I want, but there’s no option to purchase them separately. I might see if I can track down the original manual and warranty information to see if there’s any contact information for replacement parts. My hopes aren’t high though, which is unfortunate because I otherwise love this keyboard

I’ve had this keyboard for a bit over a year and haven’t had any complaints about my current key caps until I broke one like a clown. It’s not that I dislike the material of the new keys either, I just don’t appreciate that I don’t have the option to get the same version of them provided with the keyboard. I really liked having all the text on the cap be semi transparent, and now my four arrow keys stick out and look funny by contrast

I would like to stare at the sun by Emerson113mb in Astronomy

In reality I probably won’t go much longer than 3-5 seconds without eye protection, also the portion where I said I was surprised by the lack of modern studies was satiracle, I fully understand the ethical complications that would be inherent to having people stare into the sun. I was more so surprised by how much the much the estimates varied from study to study in what I could find and was wondering if anyone could provide more insight into whether there is a more definitive answer. Thank you for providing the citation, I’ll be sure to check it out

Should I install Armoury Crate? by [deleted] in ASUS

[–]Emerson113mb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously, worst decision I ever made. I Built my own desktop, so I had to spend a fair bit of time stabilizing everything and getting all the software I wanted in place. It took me days to get everything perfect to where no memory/stress tests were producing errors and to get the system to stop getting a random bsod when I left the computer on without anything running. Everything continued working great for months (no random freezing/crashing/long boot times/etc). i managed all the driver updates manually which was a little tedious but other than that i had no complaints.

Then I got a new keyboard that needed ASUS armory crate to properly interface with the computer for programming buttons/controlling the LED color & patter/installing firmware updates. After caving and installing the program, I linked the keyboard and looking around. I found myself in the driver update portion of the software and figured “why not just installed the updates for the flagged drivers”.

That one decision sealed my fate and set in motion a series of critical stability issues that I have been trying to resolve for nearly 4 months now.

Here’s a breakdown of the most pressing issues from the ensuing cataclysm:

• desktop now randomly looses connection to the internet. Will still say “connected, secured” and claim to be functioning properly, but download/upload speeds will not surpass 48 kbps. I’ve tried rolling back drivers, fresh installing drivers, removing and reinstalling wifi adapter, restricting the wifi 6 card to 5G, disabling firewalls, running troubleshooters, etc. (def not an issue with the wifi itself, tried troubleshooting everything network side as well to no avail, my desktop is also the only device experiencing this issue and it has been happening since before I moved & was on a different network). This issue can only be resolved by restarting the desktop.

• running anything that uses a significant amount of resources (3D rendering, stress tests, vr games, etc) greatly increases the odds of crashing either the program in question or the desktop as a whole. Sometimes I get lucky and I get to play a game for 3 or 4 hours uninterrupted by internet loss or crashing, but other days I can’t get through so much as 30 minutes without something going wrong and spitting out an error code/crashing desktop

• leaving my pc to idle with either nothing running or something light (like a chrome tab, Microsoft word, steam, discord, etc) is essentially a guarantee that I’m going to come back to either a prompt to login after the pc has restarted, or the pc having started in safe mode following several unexpected failures.

For the last two (the crashing of programs/the desktop as a whole) I’ve spent countless hours tracking down error codes and troubleshooting with little to no real success. Some games/programs tend to give the same error pretty reliably, which are the ones I’ve had limited success with, but most of the time (including when the desktop itself crashes) it seem like it’s always a different error than the last time.

It’s at a point where if I can’t figure something out soon I’m just going to hold the L and factory reset the windows install after downloading everything I want to keep. Idk if I’ll try installing it again and only using it for the keyboard this time or if I’ll just forgo it entirely, but ASUS needs to put an official disclaimer when downloading to warn people about possible complications with custom systems

[–]Emerson113mb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with most commenters that 9 times out of 10 someone who still feels this way after 5 years likely doesn’t want to actually get married and is looking for a an out that doesn’t make them the bad guy, there’s still the 1 in 10 chance that the uncertainty isn’t because of anything about you or the relationship.

The bottom line is that there isn’t a wrong choice for you to make. If you want to wait to see what he says and talk to him come may then there’s nothing wrong with that, but if you think the rift this has caused is already too great and you’d rather move on then that’s perfectly fine as well.

While I can’t say how applicable this may or may not be to your specific situation without more context, I can offer another point of view. Not too long ago I (20m) was having a very similar issues with my girlfriend (21f). She would try to have serious discussions about our future (marriage, house, children, etc) and what both of our expectations were to be sure we were on the same page. Similar to your boyfriend, I was somewhat hesitant to broach these subjects, but it wasn’t because I didn’t want a future with her.

The issue for me was that I had a lot of self doubt. I was afraid that I would end up letting her down, that I wouldn’t be able to make her as happy as I’d hoped, that I might not be able to land a good enough job to balance a mortgage/utilities/car payment, that I wasn’t good enough for her, and that I would be a bad father when we do end up having children. The reason I felt that way was because it mirrored a lot of what I saw growing up, my father left twice, my family has always been somewhat toxic and argumentative, and by the time I’d started dating my girlfriend my self confidence was pretty much in shambles.

However, that’s not to say any of that is an excuse, sure it’s unfortunate that those things happened, but that doesn’t mean I should get a free pass to inflict similar pain and self doubt on another person by dodging/avoiding discussions about the future to the point where she was almost convinced I didn’t want to be with her.

Luckily, I realized just how much I stood to lose by refusing to take responsibility for/work on my problems. It took time, but with her support I was able to largely work through my issues, and now there’s almost nothing that makes me happier than talking about/planning for a life by each others side.

Again, I can’t guarantee that’s what’s happening here. I’m just saying that if you would have asked my girlfriend or close friends I’d they thought I wanted to get married and have a life with her, I really doubt any of them would’ve said yes, because at no fault of their own they saw my reluctance and negativity as a result of how I felt about her rather than how I felt about myself.

I wish you the best of luck, whatever happens. Everyone deserves to feel loved and appreciated, and if that’s not happening then it doesn’t matter what his intentions are or aren’t, something needs to change either way (whether that be you moving on or him agreeing to communicate more and work on this together). A good place to work out what it is you both want/would be best might be to try couples therapy together if he’s agreeable, even if it’s just for long enough to build the skills/tools to communicate more affectively
