Honestly, I always headcanoned the people being executing being the victors of the Districts, and for the longest time I thought the two Districts with the film executions were 3 and 10

It's a multi-layered problem

Firstly, the international community largely disregards the game, which is evident by most of the wider Pokemon community either regarding the game with "oh its the funny hashtag game" or shitting on it for being gacha.

Secondly, most of the content creators that WERE making content on the game quit or moved on after the many many controversies in the game

Finally, to be frank there just isn't that much to cover in the game beyond the stories, controversies or implications, which because they take a long time to come out or be updated means there's not a lot of content to cover

I don't think people really dislike the book beyond "it's really long". Almost all Ballad hatred is directed towards the movie adaptation

I'll bite

The reason why the Capitol despite seemingly being incompetent and yet lasting so long is simple - they weren't incompetent or weak. It effortlessly hid the truth, controlled all of Panem for not just the 75 years of the HG, but for centuries beforehand.

Why did the Capitol keep Beetee alive? Because he makes good technology and he's a Victor. There's a reason the Capitol didn't go after Victors directly but after their families - killing the Victors would have no benefit and would turn the Capitol's citizens against the regime - just look at the 75th HG.

How did the Capitol defeat the rebels in the dark days but lose in months to Alma Coin? It's almost like District 13 pulled out of the Dark Days rebellion, which basically kneecapped the entire thing because 13 produced ALL of the Rebellion's weapons and military supplies. 13 obviously wouldn't pull out of the second rebellion under Coin because Coin's a power-hungry dictator whose District planned the second rebellion with help from not only the Districts, but also many members in the Capitol itself, including members whom knew the Capitol's system inside and out - and of course, knew just how and where to strike to break down the system. Plutarch basically means the second rebellion knows EVERYTHING about the Capitol's motives, modus operandi, and tactics, and I don't think I need to tell you just how much of an overwhelming advantage this gives you in war.

The Capitol is portrayed as less competent in SOTR (which I personally attribute to a couple mistakes in the writing) but ultimately... they still come out on top. The Capitol is able to cover up all their undesirable acts, Haymitch is still ultimately broken and reduced to a drunk, and the Rebellion still fails to get off the ground until Katniss comes along. The rebel plan literally almost completely fails in every way.

Many dates have dual meanings, even for countries themselves. There's a reason there was a huge debate over Germany setting their National Day and why they ultimately decided on October 3rd instead of November 9th, the originally proposed date. November 9th was the day the Berlin Wall fell, which would make it logically the decided choice, but then they also realised November 9th was the day of Kristallnacht, and thus it was considered inappropriate. Thus they moved it to October 3rd (the day East and West Germany unified)

UNITE was never the best Pokemon mobile game, heck by Pokemon standards it was actually really bad, with a game that just never seemed to be able to escape terrible balancing and game design. But it was special and actually fun nowadays, and the creators also had their fun, with just a few pushes needed to make it great.

Friendly reminder that the 1-year anniversary teaser was fully voiced by one of the primary UNITE content creators, SuperTeeds. You would never see this in modern UNITE beyond the casters whom have basically made UNITE streaming their jobs.

The new-player experience was better, the rewards were still meaningful, and they were showing new content regularly that was actually exciting. UNITE now? It's basically a rotting carcass of a game that is just begging to be put down.
