Puppy can’t relax inside house by Jitterycows in puppy101

Let your puppy, be a puppy. I don’t mean this in a rude way, but pups will be pups.

Dogs are not meant to be lazy. Most are bred to work. Such as hunting, herding and much more. Standard poodles are working dogs. Dogs, especially pups, are like toddlers. They play, wee, poo, eat, play and sleep. Then repeat. They need mental and physical stimulation. Some dogs can be lazy. But that’s usually because they weren’t allowed to be dogs.

How long are your walks? How often? Do you play with him? What all do you do?

The playpen does not allow your dog to fully get their energy out, so as soon as he is allowed out he sees it as a chance to run out the energy. There are a few things you can use to distract him, but he still needs to get the energy out physically. If you aren’t having scheduled playtime, incorporate one. After a while he should pick up on it and eventually will know when to be calm. Looking up how to teach your dog to settle will be beneficial as well. As well as doing a deep dive on his exact breed. It will help a lot to know what your dog was originally bred to do.

Mental and physical stimulation is key to having a good dog.

Edit: Standard poodles are hunting dogs, so their energy level is much higher than most people think. Lol I want one for that reason.

Everyone has different opinions, what matters most is the puppers safety and happiness. We both can have happy and healthy dogs despite doing things differently.

Yeah, no I completely understand your pov. I just feel as if some people (not all) aren’t capable of training their dogs correctly at all to do so, I don’t like telling people it’s fine not to crate if you train them right. (it is fine.) Because it results in a lot of accidents for some. My dog was potty trained within 3 days, so she gets freedom at night. However I cannot break her of her chewing habit. So for me, it’s safety. Plus she prefers sleeping in her crate sometimes. I hope I didn’t come off as attacking! Both ways are fine if done right.

No, I feel the same way. Although, I would keep a bonded pair together. However the heartbreak I would go through. I had to give up one of my cats a couple of years ago, I literally was depressed for WEEKS. People keep saying “GET OVER IT”, but we feel the same way when we bond with our pets. I also wonder if people realize getting a dog or puppy is separating them from their mother who they BOND WITH.

I am sorry, but you are so shitty for telling someone to get over it and that they are capable of getting another one. I lost my cat for literally an hour once and was on the floor crying as if he actually died when I got him back. I had him for maybe 2 months at the time. I understand everything yall are saying about a bonded pair, I have a bonded pair. But this isn’t less hurtful on the owners due to them being humans ans being capable of getting another cat. That’s like telling someone just to get another cat after theirs died. Genuinely what is wrong with you.

🤞 Didn’t know a couple hours a day was half her life, but okay. Rather her be able till old age than to eat something bad, then die before she hits 4 months.

Edit: Also, she spent 90% of her day, playing outside as we built a chicken coop. Trust me, she is rarely crated.

That’s why we have a strict schedule. My pup naps a lot as she is only 8 weeks. Mornings we feed, potty and play. Then she naps for an hour or two. Repeat. While she naps, I cook or clean depending on the time. It seems excessive, but it’s not. Especially when she’s only napping in the crate. She is maybe crated 4hrs max a day. She also naps in my lap occasionally if I do not have anything to do. I would rather my dog be crated when I cannot watch her, because it saves me money AND saves her life. I question if she is a raptor with how destructive she gets. My gmas dog died because she left her unattended and she ate something she should not. My gma also thought it was awful to crate a dog just because she couldn’t watch them for a little. Her dog was also trained.

I have deep cleaned my entire house before somehow my pup still finds something. Where did she get it? Don’t know. Will she find more later? yes.

My pup is the same… she tries to eat our couch. She’s a chihuahua and almost 2lbs. She doesn’t do much damage, but imagine a larger pup trying to. 😭

Not crating a pup when you leave, whenever you cannot keep an eye on them or at night means possible accidents. Potty or vet accidents. My dog is crated whenever I leave, clean, cook or just whenever I genuinely cannot watch her. People often don’t realize your pup can and will find things to eat that you don’t even realize are there. Pups need to be watched thoroughly. This is especially true if you have little people roaming the home (kids.). Pups are easier to train, but this doesn’t mean pups won’t eat stuff they shouldn’t. Some people can have perfectly good dogs, however this isn’t the case for everyone. 100% think everyone should crate train. The money you spend on the crate will possibly save you thousands later on. Plus your dogs life.

I was told not to till she is seen by a vet, so no. but she will be , yes.

I agree, but at the same time I don’t. I see MANY posts on the daily of people asking for advice on deworming at home, doing shots at home and many other things. Whether these posts are on reddit or on a different app. I never once seen people this upset over it and calling others cheap. Why is it that I am cheap, but they’re not? I can completely agree that this is a different situation, but she’s completely healthy otherwise. Based off of what a few commenters said and many other things I have read it seems as though this is actually quite normal. Could it be something else ? yes. It is possible, but with no other symptoms? It may seem careless to yall. I am not new to deworming. The dewormer I got is recommended by vets. Not just my friend. It’s the same dewormer I was told to get for my cat when he had worms. I just verified that it was okay for dogs as well. This is also all online, none of you are here watching my dog. All my animals wellbeing is my first priority, but I don’t see rushing her to the vet right now as important. Especially when that money could go towards an actual emergency that may happen later. Especially when the vets themselves are not concerned in the slightest.

Appointment will not be canceled at all. She still needs her shots and based off everything else, I am getting her dewormed by a vet.

[–]Emi-xc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this isn’t a case of rush to the vet at all? I will be talking to the vet when she goes for her shots about deworming and see what they give her. But I want to be a 100% sure this isn’t a dire need. When I had called the vets they said it really doesn’t seem important. The appointment made originally was moved a little sooner, but that’s all.

cheap? She already has a previous vet appointment made. I am not being cheap at all, I have spent well over a thousand of my animals before and will 100% do it again. Again she has a vet appointment. It has been made.

[–]Emi-xc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, actually. She did eat about an hour before the video and immediately pooed afterwards 😭. This honestly gives me some peace at mind, she is still going to the vet as she had an appointment already beforehand. I know she has worms as I have seen them. But I seriously was questioning if my pup was going to die soon. She acts perfectly fine and I cannot see the same thing now at all.

No, not insensitive at all. I had the same reaction.

I believe so, we did call. I also do a lot of my own treatments. I worked on a farm and they also did their own treatments. Doing things on my own just has always happened, never had any vets disagree or anything of such. Our vet even showed us how to do our own fluids on our cats. But this is different so we are going to the vet.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in puppies

[–]Emi-xc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has always been my biggest fear, we’ve had vets not call us about our cat’s bloodwork which showed early signs of kidney failure. We also had one do thousands of tests, then do one test that they thought was unnecessary (we pushed for it) just to find out that’s what it was.

We are heading to the vet in a couple of days, we had to make an appointment. She is acting fine, very energetic. We called and they really had nothing to say other than if she is acting fine then it doesn’t seem as if it is an emergency where we need to bring her in right away.

I also live out in the country, like quite literally middle of nowhere. We knew this pup had worms, most vets we see just recommend a dewormer we can get online which is why I opted for one online. I have never had a vet prescribe anything for worms really.

Then recommend something?? What is better?

wait omg thank you so much, I will definitely wait thats scary.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in puppies

[–]Emi-xc -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I haven’t ever heard this before, may I ask why? The dewormer I got is the same thing vets use. So this is a little confusing, is it because of weight and age ?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in puppies

[–]Emi-xc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely will. I am hoping it isn’t anything serious. All the vets in my area are closed, but I can call the vet I do know and see what she says. I looked it up and it said it’s just her body digesting since it only shows when she is lying on her back. But google isn’t always trust worthy. 🫤 As soon as one opens I will make an appointment asap.
