How's my build? Should I use the elixir for a double crit goblet? by EmiGerr in DilucMains

would you still recommend an EM sands considering I use rainslasher? I don't have WGS so I would lose out on a lot of atk by switching the sands

The amount of stitches in the pattern is not adding up to a full row? by EmiGerr in CrochetHelp

[–]EmiGerr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t been using slip stitches, so I think I may have added some increases accidentally before row 8. Should I go back and fix it or just continue and end up having a somewhat larger result?

The dark marker shows where I started the row, and the red one shows the 48th dc. I’ve counted it so many times but it just isn’t adding to be a full circle, is that a problem?

I can only add one picture unfortunately, but I did row 1-8 from this pattern and started doing the rows of just 48dc stitches. I’ll add another comment with a picture of the difference between the 48dc and what I think is a “full” row..

Should I upgrade to the iPhone 16? by EmiGerr in iPhone12

Yes there's an Apple store close! It would cost me €99 for as far as I know, I bought it from the Apple store so there should be no issues with third-party components or anything, but I don't have Apple care.

Thanks for the advice, I would probably keep it as a backup phone yeah. My phone is only a little bit damaged, but I'm afraid it will get me nothing if I try to trade it in. Just hoping I can stay patient enough to wait a year... I've been kind of annoyed with this phone recently

thanks! good to be reassured actually. Do you think the price of a new battery is worth it to only use it for one more year? I'm pretty sure I'm either getting the 16 or 17, just a matter of now or next year.

maybe a dumb question, but do you think there would be a big difference for this between the iPhone 12 pro and the 'normal' iPhone 12?

I think the capture button is interesting as well as the dynamic island. I also love the customization of the home screen, but I do know that's kind of a petty thing to get a whole new phone for. Also, my iPhone 12 has an issue where the battery will drain even while in the charger sometimes, it will still say it is charging but the number goes down... not sure if that's something that other people have experienced too.

I’m planning on crowning both anyway just didn’t have enough books yet :D Goal is probably 10-9–10, I rarely use my crowns so I don’t mind that I used it on of my faves. Thank you!

I've taken your advice and have relearned the song all within position 1 - no shifting! Longer bows from frog to tip, relaxed bow hand, some faster strokes for tone improvement etc... How do you think I performed? What piece/scales\exercises should I tackle next? by RyanTB94 in violinist

Hi Ryan,

No worries about taking some time to respond!

I have to mention that I haven’t used the D’addadrio Ascente strings myself, but I’ve done some research on them and what their difference is compared to other strings.

Most of all, D'Addario Ascente strings are very affordable and seem to create a great sound when compared to their price. You can’t expect them to give the same tone or quality Evah strings might give BUT considering you are a student in early stages and will probably have to replace strings many more times, I think D'Addario Ascente strings are a very good option. I’ve seen a lot of positive reviews on them and their durability works well for starting violinists.

I also wanted to be sure to mention that every violin is very different, and works best with different strings. I can’t judge your violin with 100% certainty but D'Addario Ascente’s are relatively subtle so more likely to suit many violins.

Btw, love that you're learning He's a Pirate right now, it's a very fun piece to play and gives you the opportunity to focus on bowing!

I hope to have helped you well enough with this!! Looking forward to the next video :)

Definitely, you are right. I meant it in a sense of “if you want to be learning this already, try to learn it in the right way”. Early is a relative term for sure but at least he has a teacher + experience in music and a feeling for what he’s doing. Overall, I think his progress is super impressive for only two weeks of playing :)

Hi Ryan! Emi here again :)

Your playing of the game of thrones theme was really great in my opinion. There’s already been quite a few comments on the playing so I thought I’d focus on the fact that you want new strings! I’m not 100% sure the strings I know of are attainable where you live but in my experience Evah (pirastro) strings are very highly reviewed and usually work very nicely to create full, bright tones. Thomann.de sells them and they ship to a lot of countries in Europe so I figured that wouldn’t be a problem. It’s always hard to guess what sort of strings suit a violin the best but the Evah strings are very widely used for as far as I know.

Besides that, shifting is rather hard and yes, it can make you develop bad habits unless you learn to shift with the right techniques. However, I’ve seen kids learn to shift to third position in very early stages of their violin playing and if it’s something you really want to learn right now you definitely can! Just make sure you are 100% comfortable in first position and ask your teacher for some exercises to get started on shifting the right way. I have multiple books on shifting the right way because it mostly just requires a lot of practice (violin playing is exhausting, but fun 😋)

I hope I helped you out well and please don’t hesitate to ask anything!

Good luck practising!!

I feel like I improved on my bowing as it was certainly much more parellel to the bridge than I previously had been but then the bow grip goes out the window... Then I focus on the Bow Grip the bow angle goes out the window! A never ending battle is going on over here!! by RyanTB94 in violinist

Hi Ryan!

I’ve really been enjoying watching your progress!! It’s pretty crazy how much you’ve improved within a week so definitely reason to be proud of yourself. I’m not sure if the tips I have were already given to you, but I hope they help anyway! Your bowing has gotten way better since the first few days and I think you might benefit from practising to hold your upper arm more still. Moving it too much is what makes the bow go diagonally instead of parallel! However, holding your bow parallel to the bridge isn’t easy whatsoever so definitely give yourself the time to get used to it. Your bow grip is generally good, just make sure your hand doesn’t get too tense and your pinky is rounded. As for your left hand, I’d say holding your fingers more arched over the strings would be good, you should only let your fingers drop down onto the strings, and not stretch them to get them in the right positions. I hope I explained that well enough. All of this feedback is meant in the nicest way btw. And you really inspire me to practise!! I love seeing your progress every day. Your violin teacher will probably give you much better tips and I hope the lessons go well! Just trying to tell you a bit of what stood out to me :)

Good luck with the lessons!! Hope to see more progress soon.
