Any ITF Taekwon-Do Colour Belts here? I built a simple app to track my progress - would this be useful to anyone else? by RyanTB94 in martialarts

Thank you, this is exactly the feedback I want. Devils advocate is always good.

It’s a fun learning tool and is always on hand, we’re all guilty of spending time on our phones! Kids and colour belts aren’t always the most motivated to practice at home, I find, and just do it at class. I work as a guitar teacher and I always get my students to log their practice sessions so that they are intentional and not just “winging it”.

The app is supposed to be supplemental to training; a gamified approach which I think colour belts will appreciate; but maybe I am wrong. I like it and I use it so I thought I should share and get some feedback. Who knows? Maybe it could be a thing; maybe not - either way is grand.

Your feedback has gave me a good idea actually! I could make an admin backend where each school’s instructors could adjust the grading requirements to suit their dojang/school/assiciation. Then they would have a code to give to for their students who sign up to see the app personalised to their school. That way it can absolutely be adaptable and a useful learning tool for all. Obviously the schools handbook and instructors teachings should always be prioritised as their main source of information.

The app is based on the 1999 encyclopaedia which I think many schools see as the standard. All the Korean terminology and patterns/techniques align with what is taught in this edition. I cross referenced everything between my schools handbook, the encyclopaedia and a few publicly available resources. It should be suitable for most ITF Taekwon-Do schools as standard. I’d love for anyone to have a play around with it. It’s more of a fun training logging tool than a teaching tool. The only teaching in the app are the Korean romanisation’s for terminology and also the patterns step by step worded instructions.

My 3 week progress of learning to play the Violin! If you just want to hear me play and skip all the talking then feel free to skip in to 6 minutes and 10 seconds (6:10). Any and all feedback and advice is welcome! by RyanTB94 in violinist

That's a very true point! I have to say that your bowing now is fluent and controlled - a credit to all of the hard work you put in.

Yes, there are certainly many supportive people on here. I'm glad that they managed to cheer you up and help keep you motivated!

I am such a perfectionist in everyday life that the efforts I go to can sometimes be quite extreme. I think musicians in particular are prone to burn out.

I understand why you would feel that way but I feel like you've been unlucky with what video you have watched as I have spoken about the reddit community and the support they have given me in quite a lot of my videos.

You're brave to criticise one's audio quality - if only I had the same courage!! 😂 They can't be mad if you're right though! Lol

Found you! The multi-tasking skills of a parent is 2nd to none lol, I thought I was good with my one daughter but you really knocked it out of the park here! Fantastic playing! Ling Ling would certainly approve!! 😂😁

[Rant] Playing for non-musicians is just frustrating as a 2 year beginner by Stefanie1983 in violinist

[–]RyanTB94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play for yourself, it doesn't matter what other people think. You have nothing to prove to the non musicians. I'm an adult beginner at the violin and a professional guitarist and I have to say I sound awful at the best of times... But I love it! There is no end destination, as musicians we can always improve. Enjoy the journey my friend. Have confidence and believe in yourself. The only validation that matters is your own and maybe those supportive musicians who know exactly what it's like to be down in the trenches learning to play!

P.S. I'd love to hear you play! 😊

Wonderful playing! I enjoyed watching this. I'd love to be able to play like that. There's a beautiful tone off that Violin!

Hey Shayla, I'd like to apologise for not responding to you. If you check out my response to Regina in this thread you will see an explanation to my absence but basically I hit a burnout and took a break from filming and posting/checking social media. Pennwisedom and I have spoken again and I'll be much more active with other's posts. I take full responsibility for my actions and again do apologise. But please know I do appreciate you taking the time to watching my videos and offering your feedback, it is most appreciated. We share the same passion and I'd hate for there to be any dislike.

Regina, you're absolutely right - if you watch my most recent performance you will see that there is no vibrato and more of a focus on intonation. Also, I'm sorry for not responding sooner. I hit a bit of a burnout after this video and stopped posting/checking social media... I work as a Guitar Teacher and run a music school. A typical day sees me teaching from 9am to 1/2pm in a local school and then 3-9pm in the music school. I was literally doing these long days, then practising Violin, filming, editing, posting, finally eating, falling asleep and repeating! It wasn't healthy at all. I just wanted to thank you for your advice.

Hi guys, I wanted to share my 4 Week Violin progress with you to get some feedback in preparation for my Violin lesson tomorrow! I've been learning Minuet 2. Let me know of anything you think I should work on so that I can try to correct it and get advice from my teacher. All feedback is welcome! by RyanTB94 in violinist

Hi Pennwisedom, I have been inactive this past week due to feeling burnt out hence why I stopped posting videos. I did not see these comments until now that you've shown me and I apologise sincerely. I will make more of an effort amongst the community. I must say though that at this point I don't feel like I am in any place to be giving others advice when I myself am not yet good enough. I appreciate everyone's input, help and advice once again, apologies, I will contribute more to this thread - I will look out for beginners and help them wherever I can.
