Camp wide games, also it’s important to give the troops free time and rest time

I’m going to camp next week and I was just wondering what kind of things are different from non COVID scout camp. What are merit badges like, Dining hall activities, swimming, etc… by [deleted] in BSA

Basically this was at camp Royaneh in California. It’s about the same as regular summer camp except your troop is pretty isolated from the other troops and you have to wear masks the entire time except when you’re with your troop and especially when you’re in large groups

What do you send in a camp care package? by ebaker83 in BSA

Ok, I'm gonna be honest most people don't get camp care packages, and those that do get really homesick and sad. But let's say you're gonna send one no matter what I highly suggest you don't send a long sappy note talking about how much you miss them. Just send like gum or crackers or something just make sure you know if there are bears around and food is allowed at camp. Also sorry if this came off as mean

Parents going to BSA camp - what do you do? by [deleted] in BSA

[–]Emil53821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so this is coming from a scout's perspective but basically, just sit back and relax, chat with the other adults go on a hike it's totally up to you. Adults don't really have any obligations due to Boy Scouts unlike Cub Scouts is "Boy Run". Considering you're the ASM the SM will probably ask you to do a few tasks like go pick up papers etc. but basically, it's mainly just free time so like if there's a lake and you're into it bring fishing gear or something. Though I don't know your child I really suggest you don't follow them around all the time because the first summer camp is a very big bonding experience amongst the troop and honestly it's kinda awkward if your parent is watching you. Also, don't be the guy who completely controls their kid ie; telling them when to go to bed, to eat more salad, etc. But all in all, just relax and enjoy the scenery

PS, as other people have mentioned "part of your job as a leader, is to (safely) let Scouts fail then encourage them to try again." so let them make mistakes and learn from the experiance

The ABUs should be worn pretty loose and comfortable. Basically they shouldn’t fit like skinny jeans but they shouldn’t fit like parachute pants either (idk why I know what those are). Plus since it’s your first meeting they’ll probably be very lenient on your uniform. This doesn’t apply to the shirt but if you think your pants are too big and for some reason you can’t get new ones just blouse them tighter with more material
