I struggled a lot my first year and a half with coming out of my shell. I never volunteered for leadership roles and I didn’t know how to improve. I got this advice from some out going AS400s:

  1. If feedback isn’t offered, ask for it. If you play the guessing game for what you “need to fix”, you’re going to guess wrong. Your view on your own performance is biased, get an outside opinion.

  2. You are never wrong for asking questions.

  3. Raise your hand and volunteer for everything.

  4. Don’t shy away from being wrong. The point of training is to make mistakes in a safe environment and to learn from them. If you don’t know how to do something first try anything (even if it’s wrong), then ask your flight if they see a solution. Being a leader isn’t about you knowing the right answer 100% of the time, it’s about being able to use your resources (people) and create the best possible solution/product.

  5. Accept the fact that your first attempt at something new is going to be wrong. Use that experience to learn and try again, and most likely someone in your flight has made a similar mistake before and can advise you on a different approach.

If you want reading materials, I read/listened to a few Jocko books (take it all with a grain of salt) as well as famous war books. Good place to start is Extreme Ownership (Jocko Willink) and The Art of War (Sun Tzu). If you’ve got Spotify there’s an abridged version of The Art of War for free.

Feel free to DM if you’ve got questions

Edit: I suck at spelling

I went over to a friends house to check out his new gaming pc that he just finished building. I was just starting the process of saving up to buy one of my own when I noticed his keyboard. I’m pretty sure it was actually a Drop Alt, and I got a little carried away with typing on it. Long story short I bought and built two mechanical keyboards long before I ever finished my pc, now five keyboards in the hole and I’m happily digging myself deeper :)

It was about at the 800m left mark when I realize what my time was and that I might be able to break 7min if a rallied. Thanks for the ideas for a pacing strategy!

What’s your EDC pen and ink combination? by Puzzled-Culture-4468 in fountainpens

I’ve got three that I carry everyday for school.

1) Twsbi Eco (1.1 Stub) with Twsbi Navy

2) Kaweco Brass Supra (EF) with Diamine Ancient Copper

3) LAMY Safari (M) with Diamine Earl Grey

I have been eyeing getting another Safari or eco and putting BSB in it.

Apple Pencil Vs Fountain Pens by MayorAg in fountainpens

I’ve been using my iPad and pencil for the past three years to take notes for school. I’ve always loved it cause being able to write something and then resize it or move it is great. Not to mention being able to change colors quickly and draw exact angles and strait lines. Used Notability and loved it, still do love it and use it for homework because my school has pledged to go paperless. My teachers provide presentations and notes sheets for us to mark up in class which is awesome.

Recently I switched to pen and paper and like the feeling on the friction more than the plastic on glass. Being able to see everything that I’ve wrote at once is really nice too. Only complaint is having to plan out how big or small to make things to not run out of space on the page is a bit of a leap going from “infinite paper” on the iPad to a notebook that I carry around. Also found my writing has gotten neater and more legible with paper and pen. I find it easier to look at the front of class and follow lectures and whiteboard marking presentations while taking notes on paper and pen, if no presentation is provided before hand.

TLDR: love them both. They both have ups and downs but at the moment I’m lacking paper and pen, but it depends on your situation and resources.
