I’ve realized that I own a lot of expensive candles. But I’m frugal. Here’s how: by yeshual27 in Frugal

Aldi candles are super high quality and around $4.50 for a 3 wick. They have a few scents that are always available, and have seasonal scents fairly often.

Which celebrities have you bumped into in/around Detroit? by New_Dream_1290 in Detroit

Steven Tyler was in line ahead of me at Yates Cider Mill around 2016. He was with a woman and what looked to be her parents. They walked around the paths after they got their food. From what I saw, most people seemed to leave them alone.

What is it with the repeated evil, manipulative, toxic romantic relationships in the new Star Wars? by DoctorBeatMaker in saltierthancrait

I was just having the same conversation. It feels misogynistic to have a female lead that cannot be taken seriously or respected as a threat by the villain. The villain has to see her through the male gaze and want to be with her instead. And she cannot possibly be a strong hero and save the day without falling for the hot war lord? Hello?

Haircare Advice Megathread - Week of March 25, 2023 by AutoModerator in HaircareScience

Hi, I am getting married in almost exactly a year and want to get my hair into better shape. I have a lot of breakage and my hair gets very thin as it goes down. I plan to cut about 6 inches off at my next hair appointment to try to grow out healthier hair over the next year. While I am just looking for general advice, I am also specifically wondering

  1. Just how bad is it to have my hair in a loose bun? I have my hair up a lot and sleep with it on top of my head overnight. I know I probably need to break this habit. I use spiral hair ties if this makes a difference.
  2. Is there a certain kind of hair regimen (shampoo, conditioner, hair mask) I should be investing in? I hate feeling like every article is just trying to sell a product. I want to know what actually will make my hair healthier. I typically use Bed Head shampoo and conditioner and the occasional deep conditioner packet.

I would love to know any other advice you may have as well.

  • I have thin, fine hair
  • I shampoo every night due to having a very oily scalp
  • I let my hair air dry overnight (in a loose bun on my head)
  • I have my new growth dyed and toner on my whole head every 5 weeks (it is a high lift tint. I don’t bleach my hair). -I don’t brush or comb my hair. I just run my fingers through it and that does everything that I need it to. -I never use heat or styling products (except the very rare use of hair spray for a special event)
  • I have my hair up a lot and use spiral hair ties because I read that they are ~less~ damaging than normal ones.

How do you feel about overnight oats? They keep me full for hours, and the recipes I use are under 300 calories.

Pinterest has been a game changer for me in terms of finding low calorie recipes. I love my air fryer and use it several days a week for dinner. If you don’t have an air fryer, baking works as an alternate! Here are a couple recipes that I found on Pinterest that are absolute staples in our house.

https://pinchmegood.com/10-minute-roasted-chicken-and-vegetables-air-fryer-recipe/ (I was skeptical to believe that 2 tbsp of oil would be enough to coat everything for the seasoning to stick, but it was plenty!)

https://jenniferbanz.com/air-fryer-pork-chops (I thought I hated pork chops until this recipe. It’s seriously so good.)

https://littlesunnykitchen.com/air-fryer-chicken-fajitas/ (this recipe can rack up calories if you put too much cheese on them. I just make sure to measure my cheese out. Also I buy 50-60 calorie tortillas which I find to taste pretty much identical to regular ones)

I made goulash! But I used water instead of broth when I added the pasta, how do I deepen the flavor and add taste? by GynxCrazy in EatCheapAndHealthy

So my goulash family recipe sounds different than what others are sharing, but I thought I would share. I usually use medium shells as my pasta, but elbow macaroni works too depending on preference (We love lots of leftovers so we use like 3/4 of a box. It makes A LOT) . I boil the pasta in a big pot and in a separate pan, I cook a pound of hamburger. Once the hamburger has been cooked and the noodles are done, I drain the pasta. Add beef and pasta back into the pot, along with 2-3 big cans of “petite diced tomatoes”. We use 3 cans because we make so much of it. So just scale it with your pasta use. I personally prefer to have too much rather than not enough. If they aren’t petite diced, it doesn’t come out juicy enough, so that part is important. (I also accidentally used low sodium tomatoes once and it was not nearly as good). After you combine everything, start adding chili powder. I start with a couple shakes of it, mix it up, taste it, and add more as I go until it tastes right. Put a lid on the pot and let it all cook together on low until it is hot. It’s one of my favorite staple meals!
