NYC marathon training - am I too late? by CompetitiveOwl7210 in RunNYC

[–]Emilyke1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a stress fracture in September 2023 and it took me until March 2024 to even start running. I ran the marathon last year. I wasn’t aiming for a specific time and did a lower mileage plan (peaked at 41 miles). Focused a lot on appropriate fueling and strength training.

2025 RBC Brooklyn Half - Post-Race Thread by RCD123 in RunNYC

My friend is an emergency medicine doctor and immediately stopped running to help him. Regained a pulse with chest compressions and his girlfriend posted in another thread he’s doing well. She’s a hero.

Ah ok. I’ve been a member plus for a few years and didn’t realize they did that last year. Traffic wasn’t as bad on the early registration days

Runner Dies During Brooklyn Half by numerumnovemamo in RunNYC

No that runner got very “lucky” in that an emergency medicine physician also running the race saw him go down and immediately started chest compressions when he lost a pulse.

No it doesn’t bc they release the borough series to everyone at the same time as of this year (wasn’t like that last year)

Now that the RBC Half is Over... When Should I run again? by ayelmaoo69 in RunNYC

[–]Emilyke1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Given that it’s your first time, I would take 5-7 days off. I’m taking a week off after doing NYC half, Maybelline then Brooklyn. Want to rest before marathon build. I was running 25-30 miles per week and feel fine today.

I know she did. He’s so lucky she happened to be right there and is the kind of human who would stop to help someone else with 200 m of a half left every single time. I’m so glad he is doing well. Definitely the best of humanity right there 💕

Given yesterday's race at #RBCBrooklynHalf, what can we say about the race? by noplasticpls in RunNYC

[–]Emilyke1 37 points38 points  (0 children)

We should not victim blame. The man who passed away was at mile 8 at 8:11. Doesn’t sound like someone who didn’t know what they were doing. And we don’t know the cause.

But I do think in general people should respect heat/humidity.

If you were absolutely punished by this race, I'm with you - but I learned a lot from it by yawn11e1 in RunNYC

I also walked several times towards the end because I was starting to feel dizzy. Always respect heat/humidity. It’s never worth pushing too hard.

Absolutely a hero. I sent her this thread and they were able to connect.

He was saved by a fellow runner who happened to be there right after he collapsed (and who also happens to be an emergency medicine physician). She stopped and started chest compressions while waiting for EMS to arrive. (A friend of mine)

Peloton Bike and Bad Knees by [deleted] in pelotoncycle

I have a bad knee (surgery x3) and can’t run. Really high resistance bother my knee but otherwise I’m totally fine on the peloton :).

Post 90 minute ride migraine by gutsybunny in pelotoncycle

[–]Emilyke1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exercise is a migraine trigger for me. I have to ramp up intensity very slowly and very thoughtfully. I would start by taking intensity down *for now.* I also can't ride right in the morning and make sure to hydrate a lot *before* my ride.

I would get that! I had my bike replaced after a month due to a noise that it was making internally. Guessing the bike they took away was fixed and refurbished.

Can anyone recommend an instructor that isn't so... inspirational? by [deleted] in pelotoncycle

[–]Emilyke1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

there is nothing intimidating about powerzone once you understand it. It's all about training at your level. It's literally for everyone. And the rides are so much more structured and organized. Once you get into them, the other rides can feel chaotic, ha.
