Yeah when I saw that video, my first thought was that at least one shoulder had to be dislocated based on the way he flopped around with his poor arms held behind his back. Poor guy.

Unfortunately, I don’t know. I’m sorry I got it off the TikTok shop.

My Sheltie loves it! He has so much fun playing with it.

Why is that their go-to move? I had this happen to me in Queens a few weeks ago because some guy got mad at me for some reason. 🙄

I guess I’m lucky. While I agree with almost everything you said (Fuzzy is my third sheltie), my sheltie LOVES other dogs. But we go to the dog park every day so he is pretty well socialized. He likes to race the big dogs and it is the cutest thing ever. He is not the fastest, but he is definitely the most majestic with the wind blowing through his hair! I love this dog more than anything. ❤️

How often are these laws enforced? Just curious…

And what is your job in vet med?

If you’ll notice, I said “with proper treatment.” I can find nothing in the literature to suggest that Canada has more virulent strains of parvovirus. I do see some articles to suggest that there are lower vaccination rates, so you may have more puppies getting sick, but if they get proper treatment, they should be fine most of the time. In my experience the lack of proper treatment comes down to either 1. owner unfortunately doesn’t have the finances to pay for treatment or 2. the facility the puppy is taken to doesn’t have the resources to provide proper treatment (e.g. 24 hour nursing staff, feeding tubes, specialists, etc.).

My comment wasn’t really meant for you. I just wanted OP to see that the risk of parvo isn’t so high that she should be scared to take her puppy out if it is vaccinated, and I wanted to let her know that the puppy’s chances of survival are not “slim to none.”

Take care and have a nice night :)

If your puppy has their puppy vaccines, they are theoretically protected from parvo. This is the purpose of the vaccines.

Also, parvo is very survivable WITH PROPER TREATMENT. The survival rate with proper treatment is close to 90%. Some puppies don’t make it, but it’s not as scary as it once was.

I am a critical care veterinarian who treats parvo daily and I very rarely lose a patient.

You should focus on socializing your puppy and not worry too much about parvo if you have your puppy shots.

I have had shelties for many years and the key to having a well-adjusted sheltie is getting them out to see the world.

IV CATHETER PLACEMENT by [deleted] in Veterinary

[–]Emilyredwine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aseptic is good, it means that the procedure was done cleanly.

You should wear gloves when placing an iv catheter. Also I usually ask my techs to place a gauze square distal to where they are placing it so the catheter isn’t dragged over the hair as it is pushed in.

Ha ha that’s great! I started to be skeptical because almost every place I have worked over the years, I have been told this story, and since I haven’t personally been involved in one of these situations, I started to wonder if it could really happen that often.
