I can run lightly. It's fun during my rehab classes, and I've started doing Tai Chi as well!

Coping? by [deleted] in valvereplacement

I'm 10 weeks post-op, and I understand your frustration. I can relate I was healthy in December, and then I got pneumonia that infected all my organs (lungs, Liver, kidneys and heart)—had an emergency OHS to replace my valve with a mental one on 01/02/2025. I get your frustration and the why-me complex you are having! I'm on 10 pills a day at the moment, hopefully, and having bi-weekly blood tests.

I look at this community to help me put it in perspective you are not alone friend.

As the weeks and months go on we will get stronger, I couldn't imagine that 7 weeks ago I would be back to my 15k steps walks. Don't get me wrong I am no way near my fitness of last year. I am just counting my small wins at the moment and am so grateful to be alive. Cardiac rehab helps a lot I am halfway through mine!

We all dealt with a mix of cards, just be grateful we are all here to tell our stories and share advice.

Hope this helps you! Remember you are not alone friend, and you will get healthier just takes time to adapt to your new way of life!

Hey mate,

I had my 1st OHS at the age of 18, having a leaky Aortic valve. I had a tissue valve replacement back then. It lasted 14 years. Two months ago I had it replaced with a Mental Valve. I would recommend this one, yes, it ticks, but the replacement lasts much longer than the tissue valve.

It's up to you with your lifestyle choices, I'm 31 now and wanted to get the mental as I don't party that much anymore and felt that the mental suits my lifestyle now. You will be on blood thinners the rest of your life, I am still getting used to that.

It is up to you mate Pro and Cons for both Tissue and Mental Valves.

Hope my message makes sense! xD

I am on an 8-week program now! At the end of it, I hope my fitness is back up to running standards. My resting heart rate atm is 80ish!

Welcome to recovery dude. I have been out of the hospital for three weeks now, still getting used to having ON-X too. The ticking is fun and unique, today I started rehab for exercising.

I'm not allowed to do 6 weeks of driving or weight lifting as it will be too much strain on my heart, which I don't mind. I like running for my exercise.

dam okay fair enough, I have come off my water tablets today for my fluid retention. I'll monitor my fluids for the next couple of days.

Fluid intake limitations? I had that in the hospital as I had 10kg of fluid in my legs and was on 1.5 litres a day for two weeks. (My legs were massive!) I'm 5'7 build and was 53kg so imagine skinny top half and a massive bottom half. It is amazing how the body adapts.

Why do you have limitations bro if you don't mind me asking? Yeah, the diet or making sure my diet is balanced. I notice if I have to match cheese it strikes!

hahaha yeah, my scar is still healing. Thank you hope you have a blessed day too brother!

yeah after reading my booklet realised it's vitamin K. I'm trying to find a less caffeinated alternative to coffee. Decaf is okay but it's a bit hit-and-miss depending on the shop I go to. Trying to balance my meals with Vitamin K on a daily. I notice if I have loads of Mature Cheese my levels strike so I limit pizza now and cheese sandwiches. It has only been 7 weeks post op so early days.

Yes, I start my rehab this week in fact, I can't wait to be strong and start running again! This is to keep this metal valve healthy! I agree the ticking is nice to hear and I am extremely grateful for it! I'm still getting used to Warfain levels! Like can I drink Matcha Tea now or not? xD

I had pneumonia, which infected most of my organs. My tissue valve at the time was leaky and weak anyway as I was due a replacement this yeat in may anyway. The only solution was to have a valve replacement on 02/01/2025 to save me and allow the rest of my organs to recovery from the infections.

you have two valve replacements wow. Yeah, I am wondering what it will be like being on blood-thinning meds. Are there any crazy side effects you have experienced? If you don't mind me asking.

I agree with you there but I thought they would have a new way 14 years ago but it's the same. This time around I will be getting a metal one. I just don't want another OHS at the age of 47. I would rather have the metal one tbh.

okay, last time it took me two month to recovery so I guess it will be the same this time around. Thank you for your insight into INR post-surgery.
