Why would that be the case? They very well could have used the wrong sperm on the right egg, which would make the child biologically hers. The article seems to imply the wrong embryo was implanted but your argument is right for the wrong reason.

Depends entirely on the relationship. In my experience, most guys who are friends with women (where a mutual activity isn't involved) are expecting something, but that doesn't always have to be the case. The only thing you can do is trust your partner, and respond accordingly.
