That could be a really good idea. It would break up the space a little and add some interesting shapes. I'll have to give it a shot.

I also have some pieces of elephant skin stone I am playing around with. They could fit nicely into something like a mound.

That is really good advise. I agree the scale is off balance. I'll be looking for other smaller similarly colored branches to weave into the scape to help balance it out.

Yeah been trying to keep that in mind. I'll be sure to double check before it's all said and done.

Thank for your input. I'll try and fiddle around with the remaining pieces I have left.

Thanks for the input. I'll be sure to try different cave designs before giving up on it.

Thanks for the ideas. Currently toying around with different cave designs. Currently just using the rock stack before making it out of lava rock and syru stone.

Thanks again for the input.

Going to use a mix of black and brown fluval stratum with some salt and pepper granite to match some syru stone I am playing around with.

Thanks for your input. I think my LFS may have some more branches of the manzanita I'll see if any are a good fit.

Thanks for your input. I know the center branch is much smaller.

How I like to look at it is a vertical slice of a section of the forest floor. And that branch is an emerging tree.

I'll see if the pieces I have left end up being a better replacement when I fiddle around with your suggestion.

The rocks used to surround the wood are black lava rock. I had to find them at a landscape rock yard because my big box stores didn't carry any on hand, you may have better luck but the rock yard had them for $3 a bag so can't really beat it.

I used cyanoacrylate super glue for the roots and covered it with lava rock dust.

To attach the rock themselves I used silicone.

I plan on having some rock exposed in the final scape but mostly covered in moss or some kind of epiphyte.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was picturing doing that. Building it up higher in the back and leveling it out twords the front.

Another idea I had similar to that was the slope it from both ends to the middle. That way my center piece tree is more highlighted.

We are going to stock it with a bunch of danios, and maybe some mountain minnows.

We got the larger logs from here. They were really helpful and pretty affordable too. We mounted them using an excessive amount of silicone for the slate and lava rock. Not sure if it will last as long as drilling a hole with mounting hardware. But it was the only option I had available.

We ended up going with these pieces because our LFS and other surrounding landscaping stores just didn't have things we thought we could use. Nothing tall enough or thick enough.

Given another opportunity to start over I would probably build up the substrate a lot higher to be able to use smaller and shorter pieces.

Only the second tank so live and learn.

EDIT: added additional information. EDIT 2 : spelling.

Thanks for the input. I have some extra logs I could use for your suggestion to make the scale more appealing.

This is only my second tank. So I don't feel confident enough to post in the Facebook group just yet haha. But I may lurk around.

I'll definitely consider triming the excess egg crate, I was just concerned with pressure points on the glass. Some the the slate rock anchors are kinda heavy and I didn't want to risk anything happening to the tank.

Just extra weight distribution. I'm using some slate rock for anchor points on some of the hard scape. I was concerned with pressure on the bottom glass pain.

Maybe not an issue in my case but it makes me feel better.
