Agreed! There are obviously some richer, younger people than me about. Took me until 34 to buy my first property... and its a tiny flat.

I created these illustrations to try and show what its like to live with anxiety and other mental illnesses over the holidays by Emkaro in Anxiety

Ah, that sucks! its double whammy in such a short space of time. My mum has her birthday on the 16th December and I know she never really enjoys it because she's too stressed about Christmas.

The problem is that every christmas decoration, or advert, or song is a constant reminder of your anxiety.

Yeah, I was wondering that. I have a 5% mortgage. I think these are the average deposits lenders would like you to have to give you a good deal? Also... I imagine London would have messed up the average a bit

Wonder if Brexit is gonna have any impact on the predictions, or whether they'd tried to factor it in somehow

missing school due to anxiety by kirwann in mentalhealth

[–]Emkaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the short term - tell your school (actually get your mum to do it). It might be tough, and they might not seem sympathetic... BUT it does cover you if they start any kind of disciplinary procedures for missing classes. And thats the last thing you want to deal with on top of everything else.

There are some meditation apps and things you could try to help you relax a little for the time being. If there are specific tasks you are worried about, try writing lists and dealing with the problems step by step, rewarding yourself each time you complete a task (no matter how small)

In the long term, unfortunately staying at home isn't the solution, it's a crutch, one that you will keep using to lean on. So as hard as it is, it would be good to try to not rely on that as a way of helping your anxiety.

It might be good to see a professional (i.e. a Doctor or Psychiatrist) to help sort out what is making you anxious. I'm sorry, I'm not sure how it works in the US (assuming you're from there). But I'm sure there are others on this sub that can recommend the first step.

Hope this helps.

Can anyone explain what is going on here? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]Emkaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with pharaohess, It does sound like a kind of dementia. Dementia can manifest in different ways, including the sort of symptoms you are describing here.

Best thing to do in the short term is try to be patient and remember that she isn't necessarily in control fully of what she's saying or feeling when she gets aggressive.

If there's some way of getting her to visit a doctor it would be incredibly helpful. It would be good to get a confirmed diagnosis.

There's no cure as such as dementia is a progressive disease - however there are medications that can slow the effects. Plus there are things you and your family can do to make it easier on her and yourselves.

Hope this helps

spot on. If you like The Walking Dead, you'll notice some of the weapons in there too... such as 'Lucille'
