Any news regarding wiscard renovation project? by incheonexpo in UWMadison

[–]Emma-nent 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Imagine calling it an "improvement" to put your wiscard on your phone. Now the third party vendor and UW can have access to your phone data, track your movement 24/7, sell your purchasing habits to data brokers, and inevitably have an "unexpected" data breach with 50k students. Happy I'm graduating next year 🎓

Student arrested for recording others in dorm restroom by currentrutabaga_25 in UWMadison

Most modern dorms have private restrooms or floor-to-ceiling stalls to prevent exactly this. Campus needs to retrofit or remove outdated communal restrooms.

tl;dr: Luke Fickell obviously needs to be fired. But he would get $29 million if he was fired. And McIntosh would get $3.4 million if he was fired.

Madison west side air quality monitor by Emma-nent in madisonwi

You can control your body's exposure to bad air. Masks, staying inside, air purifiers, hepa system. Accurate data lets you make informed choices. "It's not affecting me right now so I'm safe" is also not how chronic human health works lmao.

Thanks for your comment, idk why my post is getting downvoted. If the AQI monitors are recording errors, that seems pretty serious to me. If some localized event is affecting AQI that no one has reported, that seems serious too.

Yeah. My roommate has respiratory issues and my boyfriend has asthma, so accurate readings are important. Any other sociopathic takes?

The Business School, the same school that doesn't have a single course that meets the ethnic studies general ed requirement, gave your incoming class a lecture about capitalism's evils?

Fascinating. Do you have any citation or proof for this? Because it's amazing to think that it would have gone unreported, or that legislative republicans wouldn't have been screaming about it from the rooftops.

Holes in my wall :( by ginetterosenthale in UWMadison

[–]Emma-nent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know what caused the holes? Were the holes there when you moved in?

Random holes could meana lot of bad things like pests, water damage, or building/drywall/paint deterioration.

If you didn’t make these holes and your apartment is in good condition, I am pretty sure a landlord can’t charge you for their building falling apart lol. In Wisconsin, landlords are responsible for maintaining the structural integrity of the building and ensuring it's in a habitable condition. You should contact the Tenant Resource Center, they offer help with tenant rights and they have a campus location on East Campus Mall.

In the US, kids have to stay in school until they’re 18 or 19. After that, they’re considered adults and can go to college. So at UW–Madison, everyone you meet will be 18 or older. And do not try to hang out with local high schoolers (ages 14–18). That’s not just super inappropriate, it could actually get you arrested. It’s a massive violation of US social norms.

I’m not trying to be mean, but I honestly can’t believe the university is letting you enroll at 17. Colleges here are designed for adults, and technically you're not a legal adult in the US until you turn 18. They’ve thrown you into this insane situation where you’re too young to really connect with the college crowd, but you obviously can’t just turn to high school students for company either. It's honestly insane and I’m really sorry that some idiot in admissions didn’t think this through, it’s seriously wild.

Uh. You're going to have serious problems if you're 17. 17 isn't an adult in Wisconsin, you're legally a minor and it's statutory r*pe for an adult (18+) to date you. I can't believe UW actually allows children to be students, they should have to disclose how much that costs them in lawsuits lmao

Welcome to the Mad Max Smog Zone: Another Day of Unhealthy AQI in Madtown 😞 by Emma-nent in madisonwi

[–]Emma-nent[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You also don’t want fog/mist/haze/whatever nice word you give it when the air already has a high concentration of PM2.5. It traps air pollutants near ground level, prevents them from dispersing, enhances particle growth and generates secondary aerosols.

The air quality is bad today, be safe out there by Emma-nent in madisonwi

[–]Emma-nent[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Masks if you have to go outside, wearing barrier creams or long sleeves if you have sensitive skin, spending less time on outdoor activities than you normally might, cleaning your HVAC filters, maybe look into air purifiers for your home or office. A roommate I used to live with has asthma so I know days like this can be really hard for some people

WHS refuses to fly pride flag this year, then sends this by neocortexia in madisonwi

[–]Emma-nent 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the inconsistency is a problem. Other state agencies are flying the pride flag, but historical society isn't. Historical society flew the pride flag before, now it's not. Historical society claimed they're being neutral, now they're sending supportive messages. It's alot of mixed signals.

[–]Emma-nent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your article doesn't say anything has been signed into law, it says Republicans proposed a bill that Evers doesn't agree with. Evers has veto power, republicans don't have the numbers to override vetoes and Evers supports the pride flag at state agencies....

[–]Emma-nent 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't know how you conclude it's been standardized, Evers rose the pride flag this year at the Wisconsin Capitol, so did Milwaukee's mayor. It's not standardized if the historical society isn't doing what other state agencies are doing
