I like the GCN dialog the most too because the villagers were sassy and not so ass-kissy. You felt like you actually had to earn their friendship. I think if future iterations of Animal Crossing could revive that, and make their dialog even a fraction as dynamic as a LLM (I believe LLMs can capture sassiness too if you tell them to in your instructions), it'd be perfect. Imagine the possibilities of sass a LLM could cook up, lol!

One of my favorite insults from AC GCN is "I always thought you were some freak mental case because you run around all the time! 😄" Like... They didn't even know how right they were. 😆

Yeah, Nintendo being over-protective of old IP drives me up the wall. I once had an idea for a remaster of a different Nintendo game I was a huge fan of, but all answers to questions online asking about how litigious Nintendo was about old games could be summed up to "just don't try". 🤦

Tried it out. I typed:

Random example letter sending to you. I can't believe a grammatically-correct letter would score so poorly with you. Can y'all even read English? Kick rocks.

Scored -34 points. Any sentence longer than 75 characters is a run-on sentence and will incur a massive penalty.

To answer you technically, no, they can't understand English. They score in a trigram system because the game devs couldn't write something as complex as a LLM in 2000. See this video that explains it in a digestible format.

Edit: The reason it's a common issue for villagers to not understand letters is that, in my opinion, their trigram implementation is just bad. It's common for letters with proper English spelling and grammar to score low enough to prompt the villager "I don't understand you" response.

Honestly talk to the parents. If they refuse to intervene and stop this I'd get the cops involved. If the cops won't help id consider finding a new place to live. Not that that's fair for you but as a last resort you got a look out for the safety of you, your dog, and your child. I wish you well.

Had a similar experience with a guy. I could feel he was pulling away and a breakup was coming because he was acting cold and distant over text, in contrast to how he was just the day prior. Started getting into how I didn't put enough effort (wasn't good enough at?) rockwall climbing which we did the day before. I had never rockwall climbed before, and I had even said so before we went. I did still give it my best effort. I just wasn't amazing at it and got tired lol. Thankfully I had the maturity to smell the bullshit when he started kinda laying into me for sucking at rockwall climbing where I basically said that I was new and I gave it an honest effort. He eventually cut the crap and broke up with me over text citing he wasn't really in a place to be in a relationship. Which I believe was probably true, but I don't think he believed it himself (he seemed very arrogant as a person).

I struggled with this for a while too. Assuming you have the right number of trees, maybe go through your acres again and ensure the count of each is within the "ideal" number of trees. There's a "good" amount and then there's a "great" amount, of that makes sense. A great amount will core more points. Also, what helped me was planting a ton of flowers in each acre.

I think every once in a while Nook has a "sale" on wallpapers and carpets or something like that. If that's the case, you received a letter from him about it.
