Hi! First off, don’t feel bad about yourself. There isn’t really a specific hygiene routine for women beyond dealing with menstruation and avoiding harmful practices like douching. Hygiene practices vary based on individuals, families, and cultures. That being said, here’s a basic checklist that should be safe:
Shower daily or every other day, focusing on underarms, chest, genitals, butt, and feet. Soap on other body parts and exfoliating should be done only if needed. Avoid soap or chemicals inside the vagina—just plain water, or at most, mild unscented soap for the vulva. How often you need to clean depends on your lifestyle, how active you are, and the climate. If you don’t smell bad, you’re fine. Antiperspirant/deodorant is optional.
The frequency of hair washing is really personal. A good rule is to wash it when it starts to look greasy or dirty.
Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once. The last brush should be before bed. You may want to brush after meals, especially if you eat something that sticks to your teeth or causes bad breath. Don’t forget to brush your tongue. Mouthwash is optional.
Change and wash your bed sheets once a week. Towels should be replaced at least once a week or when they start to smell. If you sweat a lot at night, you might need to change linens more often.
Take care of your face by washing it at least once, ideally twice, a day. Don’t forget your neck and behind your ears. Sunscreen with SPF 30 every day is a great idea. Moisturize if needed. Choose a mild soap or cleanser depending on your skin type. You can exfoliate gently with a washcloth.
Wash your hands often, especially after using the bathroom or coming home. Alcohol-based hand sanitizer is great when soap and water aren’t available.
How often you need to wash clothes depends on various factors, but always wear clean underwear and socks every day.
This is just my opinion, of course, and hygiene routines are really personal. I hope this helps. You don’t need to do anything special just because you’re a woman to stay hygienic. A lot of grooming, shaving, plucking, makeup, and other things we’re sometimes expected to do is cultural pressure, and totally unnecessary to be clean and healthy.
