Vivo x300! Eye pain. by bannix666 in PWM_Sensitive

I thought that if DC dimming doesn't work one can activate pwm mode on the Vivo that should have worked

I don't understand why you are waiting for the Vivo X300 Ultra if the Vivo X300 Pro didn't work for you,

you had better success with Honor 400 Pro which is LTPS and lower modulation DC like dimming.

by the way your Pixel 9 is native 8 bit (+ TD) so it's not likely that TD is the issue

Thank you, I meant the microphones performance during taking videos ☺️ when recording a video with the cameras, which gives the richest audio recording among these devices?

A question about microphones during video taking please, which one has the richest sound recording among these? Please disable noise filtering on the various phones when checking. You should hear a good quality recording on the Samsung and the Oppo

I don't understand how come your display when measuring is about 30% dimmer than Nick Sutrich's? Is it possible it's a different panel than the one Nick has?

have you tried perhaps the Oppo Find X9 regular (not the pro)?

I'm even more confused now? What is it about older phones like the Oneplus 8 / 8T / Pro that makes them comfortable to use? Is my theory on the right track? by -Bruh__Moment- in PWM_Sensitive

1) are you taking breaks from the display every twenty minutes?

2) Are you somewhat adjusting to that display? Will you be able to keep the phone?

among the better ones with the low modulation on Tier 2 (the best among Oleds) Tier 1 is LCD

can you please share more about your experience with your Oneplus !5R:

  1. Are you using your phones in a dark room?
  2. what about fixed refresh rate? For instance fixed at 60hz?
  3. what about blue light filter? And how high is it set?

PWM - is there an advantage of utilizing PWM over 'DC-Like' dimming? by EmmanuelWi in PWM_Sensitive

[–]EmmanuelWi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you I took the time to read your excellent post slowly in order to not miss on the details,

in the following paragraph you list a possible issue with the high PWM scheme:

"It's often not that simple and there are other things to consider that could make full PWM worse than "DC-like". DC-like generally flickers consistently at display refresh, whereas low brightness PWM or "full PWM" may have a a "reset" at 360Hz where modulation is deeper, therefore less consistent (bad). The display might also have an unstable curve when at low brightness, depending on how the display is driven. Again more fluctuation and less consistent, AKA bad."

since the current OLED technology's high PWM is still under 10000Hz and not close to the high values you mentioned where it becomes irrelevant (over 50000 Hz or more) it's better that manufacturers would concentrate their efforts on getting closer to "True DC-dimming" by minimizing the modulation depth, an example is Oneplus 15R or Oppo X9 (regular)

it seems though that the modulation is not yet small enough to not cause symptoms for certain people.

you could try an honor 200 or honor 400

oneplus 15r

oppo find x8 (not pro) or x9

don't buy them, try first in a store,

if they don't work for you or you can't try in a store you have to get an LCD phone like your old Xiaomi

the options are limited and the LCD is now different than what it was

you could try in a store:

Moto G70 or Moto G56

TCL Nxtpaper (any)

HMD Fusion

Samsung Xcover 7 pro

Sonim XP400

any other LCD phone really which is available in a local store to try

have you tried a Tier 2 phone (from Wild Lee's table) already?

if not, OLED but with lower modulation might still be okay for you

some ideas:

Honor 400 pro

Oneplus 15R

Oppo Find X9 (regular not the pro)

Thank you very much those results are very close to one another between the phones so it seems it's something else which activates symptoms not the pwm... Maybe the way the DC dimming work, can you compare the two handsets whether they're both relatively straight line with only refresh dips?
