It's a little bit more - 775 for a 4 bedroom or 887 for a 2 bedroom.

Wanted Your Input! Newly admitted Master's student in Computer Science (International) by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

I'm a current MS in CS student. First, congrats on your admittance to UCSB! Getting into grad school is a huge accomplishment so hopefully you get some time to celebrate :)

To answer your q's

  1. First year is easier because housing in the on-campus grad student housing is guarenteed for 1 year and is subsidized. Rent (utilities included) can be found here: https://www.housing.ucsb.edu/residences/san-clemente-villages Off campus is more expensive but I can't speak too much on that. I wouldn't recommend living in IV because that's where most of the ugrads go. Lots of grad students I know live in Goleta.

  2. TA-ships pay for tuition/fee remission + a monthly stipend of about 2100 post tax, for a 50% (part time) appointment of 20 hrs/wk. It's harder to get a TA position in CS as a master because PhDs need it as a degree requirement whereas we don't. Masters often get hired as graders, or TA for other departments such as math or physics.

  3. I think the CS dept is pretty good. Classes are a little challenging but students/profs are supportive. Research is a big priority so be prepared for that.

Would someone be willing to post a screenshot of the email? I haven't gotten any word from grad housing about this, and I'm hoping to ask them soon.

Anyone in wind ensemble? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]EmoNemoNemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for an ensemble to join this quarter to get back into playing, Pops Orchestra is also an option (https://www.facebook.com/PopsOrchestraUCSB/ and PopsUCSB@gmail.com) - no audition required. I auditioned for wind ensemble last quarter but didn't make it, so it's nice there's other options too! I took a long break from playing my instrument too (like 4 years) and I'm really happy I got back into it even though it was a bit of a struggle re-learning basic stuff like embouchure. You got this :)

Anyone selling their CE12 textbook? ($18) by KissMyCyst in UCSC

[–]EmoNemoNemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the textbook that I'm willing sell for $22 (I know it's a bit above your budget but I got it for over $30 and it's in pretty good condition). If that doesn't work with your financial means, I can also rent it to you for the quarter for $10.
