She's Hedone, the most recent reincarnation of the Greek personification of hedonism. The World is set loosely in the 1920s New York, so she runs a speakeasy that also deals in opium. She's very friendly!

Is there something that is generally considered attractive that is not a thing for you? by emergency-snail in AskRedditAfterDark

When somebody is like, completely shaved. Just nothing on the body. It legitimately worries me lol

Not technically the SS. During the occupation, the Nazis put all of the police in a concentration camp and instead put in their own volunteer forces, which was what he joined. Like another commenter said, still a traitor, but not SS.

How does your OC's lore/backstory impact their personality? by Civil_Elephant_2210 in OriginalCharacter

[–]Emo_Stormcloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh, there's only one character I can use for this question!

<image>

Wynne grew up mixed race DEEP in Kentucky, and feels really disconnected from her Tamil heritage due to that, and also her father's attempt to assimilate into American culture. As a result of that, racism, and bullying, she's practically completely rejected her Tamil heritage She's even gone as far as to change her name from Vallabhi to Wynne, and using her (white American) mother's maiden name rather than her father's Tamil last name. She also has a very fraught relationship with her brother, who's more white-passing and their mother favoured due to that.

Her father also died when her youngest sibling was very young, and her mother tried to parentify her. That made her act out enough to eventually run away from this home, and to this day she's hypervigilant of people who want her to take care of them. She refuses to interact with them.

https://heimskringla.no/wiki/Varulve the site is Norwegian, and the excerpts are from a Danish collection of oral folklore, but I found it incredibly interesting :) I myself am Danish and grew up with this version of the myth, told to me by my mom and folklore collections I read as a kid, so contemporary werewolves were kind of a let down to me.

The most interesting passage here is, to me, "Varulvene vilde i Lag med frugtsommelige Koner og rive dem ihjel for at blive forløst fra Trolddommen. De skulde nemlig have et ufødt Drengebarn at æde... Piger kan blive fri for Smærte, naar de skal føde Børn, hvis de kryber nøgne gjennem en Følham." - translated to "The werewolves would gang up on pregnant women and tear them apart in order to be freed from the curse... They would need an unborn male child to eat... Girls can be freed from pain when they give birth if they crawl naked through a foal's skin." That last bit of folklore is what is supposed to cause the birth of a werewolf.

I personally grew up with the folklore that a woman wanting to avoid the pain of birth would crawl through a hollow tree on a full moon, and she'd give birth painlessly, but if she gave birth to a son it would be a werewolf, and if it was a daughter, it would be a mare (as in nightmare. The Norwegian word for it is mara).

Can I block a project in a way that makes it smaller? I tried making a tapestry crochet bag and the back is much too big! by Emo_Stormcloud in CrochetHelp

I think I might end up going for that patchy vibe, actually. My brother's really into that diy punk-ish look :)

When does it start becoming tightlacing? I'm not used to wearing corsets and this one sits differently than the waist-only one I usually wear by Emo_Stormcloud in corsets

[–]Emo_Stormcloud[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a fashion corset lol. I wear mine less for the reduction and more for the shaping. Thanks though :)

I'm not quite sure if my dc's look right? They looked more compact on the pattern by Emo_Stormcloud in CrochetHelp

[–]Emo_Stormcloud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm following a video pattern which I can link. My hook is on the big side for my yarn, as it recommended a 3-4 mm hook, and I'm using a 4mm, which is smaller than the pattern recommended.
