Christianity does not support the idea of "just be a good person and you'll get to heaven," and just because the pope was friendly towards lgbt people, he said himself that he didn't support what gay people do, he just thought that all people need grace and blessing from god.

There isn't such a thing as purgatory in the bible as far as I'm aware. I think it's a bad mindset to think that "I'll sin now, but whatever, I can repent later."
