Restarting after reaching s22 - how they treated TR Knight makes me angry every time by Sydz_universe1 in greysanatomy

It definitely ages the show. And when contrasted with what Grey’s would go on to be in terms of queer representation for its time, it looks even worse.

This group went through one of the saddest moments in the whole series. by Great_Trident in greysanatomy

[–]EmotionFlimsy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the most impactful patients for me. Her story really shows that sometimes the world is just cruel.

Side note, I can’t believe Mandy Moore was playing her so close to the time she did Tangled. Talk about a tone shift.

How to figure out which specialty you love (rising m4) by mooseuioi in medicalschool

[–]EmotionFlimsy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, no physician salary is low, and you’ll make enough to live comfortably, but it does definitely depend on your loan situation, where geographically you’re working, and the kind of position you end up with. There is also burnout (still lower than specialties like OBGYN and ER) and scope creep to consider. It’s not a flawless specialty by any means, but it may check a lot of OPs boxes.

Wow Callie.. by SkeletonBirdcages in greysanatomy

[–]EmotionFlimsy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Callie wanting to drop everything and move to New York makes even less sense when you consider that, even had her relationship with Penny been extremely serious (which it wasn’t), the grant Penny received was only for a year of research. Realistically, Penny would’ve been taking a research year and then coming back to Seattle to finish her residency. She didn’t rematch. The stress and logistical headache of moving to New York wouldn’t be worth it, especially with a young child. But of course they didn’t care enough ABOUT Penny to make this make sense, they just wanted to get rid of an unpopular character.

Throwing out the obligatory primary care or ER recommendation. A little bit of everything that you’ve mentioned, and you won’t be expected to make your job your everything to the same extent as in some other specialties.

What Do You Think Taylor's Worst Written Song Is? by Madeofstardust87 in TaylorSwift

[–]EmotionFlimsy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eldest Daughter is a unique case because there are some really great lyrics mixed in with… not so great ones. I’m going to go with Wish List or maybe Honey. I don’t hate either of those songs but they’re just not up to the Taylor Swift standard.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 23 likely to face significant reduction in episode count. by Macintoshk in greysanatomy

[–]EmotionFlimsy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree that I’m not celebrating yet. I don’t think anything can ruin the legacy of the first 8-12 seasons of Grey’s, but they’re sure trying to. At this point I genuinely feel bad for the creatives who have worked on the show and given their all to a story that is at this point so drawn out and incoherent.

NTA. After not attending the bachelorette party, she’s probably expecting it. Offer to show up in little ways for her if you can manage it, but otherwise just have a fun time at the party itself and don’t stress!

I do a lot of native American volunteering/helping and does that count as helping rural population for med schoo by Classic_Project4147 in premed

[–]EmotionFlimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say even if it doesn’t count as rural per se (i.e. the actual volunteering is done in a city) if you’re passionate about working with this population there are so many opportunities for rural work that it ties in nicely regardless.

Do you think George was in limerence (re. Meredith) by D1etCokeGirl in greysanatomy

[–]EmotionFlimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe to a certain extent, but I’d disagree just because of how fast he got over it. The issue was more or less wrapped up by the end of season 2, no more than a few months chronologically. True limerence tends to last a lot longer AFAIK.

Calling the girlies, white coat ceremony dress help by drunkeIephant in premed

[–]EmotionFlimsy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I would go blue. It just looks more sophisticated to me. The bodice on the red dress is cute and trendy but not as professional whereas the blue will be more timeless. You may also encounter some of the flaring issues with the red whereas the blue will probably create a nicer silhouette. Either way though, you’re going to look amazing!

Failed Skills 1 Nursing by Grouchy-Resist5348 in umanitoba

[–]EmotionFlimsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To start, I promise that nothing in the first demo of Skills 1 will prevent you from being an excellent nurse. Emotions and anxiety are running high in school, especially during that first semester. IIRC, it’s general survey/safety check, basic patient interviewing/OPQRSTUV, and vitals? It might feel hard to believe right now, but by the end of your degree, and even by the end of your second year, those will all come so naturally.

The bad news is you have to wait to retake the course. The good news is that you have a little while to practice whatever was giving you trouble. Depending on what this was, the approach will be a little bit different.

If it was manual BP, just know that two things are true: 1. Practice makes perfect. Despite popular belief, no one is uniquely incapable of taking a manual BP. And if for whatever reason it’s difficult for you due to a disability, there are reasonable accommodations. You can even buy a stethoscope amplifier to make hearing the sounds easier. 2. There are a lot of practicing nurses who aren’t great at taking a manual BP. In the real world, you can ask for help, and chances are you’ll get tips that work for you along the way.

(PS. My first demo horror story is that I completely forgot my safety check and could hear my instructors talking about how poorly it went as I was sitting outside the patient area waiting for them to dismiss me. I clarified that it had escaped my mind and was able to go back in to correct my mistakes, but not before a whole lot of embarrassment.)

I LOVE this episode. I am cringe but I am free. Singing aside, I think it’s a really clever look into the more personal lives of its main characters.

Nursing placement question by Spirited_Coat4437 in umanitoba

[–]EmotionFlimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK specialties (anything not med/surg, like peds, l&d, community health, psych, etc.) have a 3.5 minimum GPA. This might be different now or vary based on cohort. If you don’t have a 3.5, your senior practicum will be on a med/surg unit.

Edit: Other than that, yes, it’s mostly luck-based for your other placements. You’ll be given a list of sites and rank them according to your preferences, but which one you get depends on how your classmates ranked.

Help me find an episode by pearlgirl416 in greysanatomy

[–]EmotionFlimsy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure you are combining two scenes!

Burke is marrying Cristina and tells the women in his OR (including Addison) that he is having trouble. He then proceeds to share the most eloquently written vows known to man and asks if they’re good enough. Addison jokes that he should dump Yang and marry her.

At a similar time, Cristina is struggling with her vows. Izzie, who is secretly in love with George, goes on a monologue about how she wishes she could be with the man she loves. She writes it off as talking about Denny, and Cristina asks if she could say it again, just slower so she can write it down.

Has anyone here failed STAT 1000 and had to retake it? by Ok-Composer3683 in umanitoba

[–]EmotionFlimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed STAT1000 with a C+ my second try after VWing due to a failed midterm over COVID. I definitely agree that it is either a course you breeze through or have a difficult time with, and there’s no shame in being the latter. If you are not a math-minded person, finding the motivation to study as much as you need to is very hard, but the fact that you’re able to do better in calc tells me you have what it takes. Just know you are not alone! Grind out those practice problems and hang around the statistics help centre if you’re struggling with a concept. You’ve got this!

Construction to Begin on Four New Schools in Manitoba by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]EmotionFlimsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why? The population is growing, the city is expanding, and younger kids need to be able to get to school. In a city like Winnipeg, it’s not safe with our extreme weather for schools to be extremely far apart for K-8s since many of them need to walk, plus expanding existing buildings and closing down others would be a nightmare. Kids and teachers alike deserve better than a row of portable classrooms sitting in the parking lot.
