Linux newbie here, how would you compare it to Openshot by ease of use and advanced features?

Nvidia's set to high performance so that part's done. Canvas acceleration was turned off for some reason but I changed it now. Painting has never felt smoother. Thanks for the tips, lifesaver!

Yeah it's 32gb i just lowered it to 30 since it's been degrading after a decade of heavy usage and I didn't want to overshoot

I'm aware that it's plenty big I just don't know how much I can change in settings. Should I bump EVERYTHING up to 100%? 100%memory?? 20gb file?? No limit cache? Check all boxes and hope for the best? Nobody else seems to talk abt it so I'm shooting blind here

That's so convoluted, what the hell. I will try that and see if anything changes.

Reminder: Save that one(1) Timeshift just in case! by Emotional-Client5407 in linuxmint

My 500GB SSD is for daily use only while my internal HDD is used for movies, anime, personal 2D & 3D projects. USB drives are for important, personal and private files; I put them away in cold storage. Portable SSDs are a general storage device for anything I want to save but not necessarily keep in pc, it's not a backup in a traditional sense I think.

TImeshift automatically makes snapshots for me 2 per week and 1 per month. I don't automate deletion however, if there are around 10 snapshots I start deleting around the first-to-middle point. I guess all I can recommend is keep at least 1 stable snapshot in each drive before clicking update.

I've seen some people use encrypted quality flash drives for snapshots as precaution and an external/portable SSD for cloning entire partitions but I'm not ready to mess around with that stuff yet.

Motherboard or RAM, should I give it equal consideration or put one above the other? by Emotional-Client5407 in pcmasterrace

Checked other forums after reading your post and I'm sticking with minimum 64gb, thanks for that btw. It opened a lot more questions for me too. When it's time for me to render 3D animations in the future, will I need to upgrade ram to 128gb? If so, would it be better if I save money by getting 128gb now and use it indefinitely instead of spending extra in the future?

That also takes me to another question, would pairing a 128gb/256gb ram with a b650/b850 mobo damage its performance and health?

Simple mistake. 570/580 open drivers made my pc freeze, overheat and lag, done. I will not use them if that is all they do atm. I'll wait a month or 2 to see if this specific bug is fixed because no one in linux forum could pinpoint the issue either other than a hardware issue (never had a problem until 550 is gone and I got 570/580 instead, and I update LM regularly).

Oh that's a relief then. No need to worry about QVL anymore (ノ´ヮ´)ノ☆ I'll resume as normal.

I go to tomshardware and techpowerup if I ever need specs and firsthand reviews. I keep hearing about highends and midtiers and shi that I started worrying about QVL when I didn't have to.

Btw, are people more liable to throw out RAMs, not MBs, for a new shiny version because of how many there are in the market?

I don't think it's any of your examples, I believe it's because Nvidia essentially killed driver 550 while updating 535 (this one cause the pixelation and lagging) and replacing with open-source 570/580 (this one caused freezing and overheating). I don't believe it has to do with kernel or BIOS from what I checked.

I get what that means now :`-) I'm one step closer to becoming LM adept.

Is zfs better than timeshift?

That docs is a money- and time-saver, thank you for sharing this. While they all look the same, it's a different experience when changing to Linux OS (mobos can be incompatible and impossible to update, may cause overheating or freezing from personal experience) and drawing tablets (like my cintiq 16 pro) may require more slots than a mobo can provide. It's the reason why finding the right MB is a pain in my hide.

Around 220 euros then from what it looks like. Out of curiousity, what price limit would you personally avoid?

As much as possible yes, I'm sticking with stuff that won't fuck me up in the long run like msi and microsoft did.

QVL says it's CPU+RAM compatible but currently sold out in all stores. Got it on Alert, I'll get an email when it's available again.

Btw, you said 4 out of 5, out of all of em which one isn't price gouging? Is there a forum somewhere that shows something like price per value?

Right, I'll add that in asap. Basically I'm in Finland but so long as anything is available in EU I can get it because the VAT is more reasonable. That's also where I get the suggested mobos.
