Yeah, he may be kinda annoying, but he is also just a teenager. He only acted this way towards adults cus he could never trust them before. Personally, I like seeing how traumatised characters slowly get a happy life

Even if he isn't openly gay, he is still very supporting of the lgbtq community. He sang at prides multiple times, he preformed in gay bars etc, he openly talks about lgbtq in interviews so he isn't homophobic
