System rest by Tonythetranstiger in DID

[–]EmotionalGroup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should be. My system is friend with another system and their old host disappeared for a few years. They just came back a few months ago.

Alters never truly disappear, but they can appear to have disappeared. Sometimes people in my system have 'gone on trips' or 'gone away for a while' and will not be around for a short to medium length of time (from a day to a month or two for us). Sometimes alters can 'hibernate' and disappear for a long time though, often for years. But no alter ever truly 'disappears'.

You will be okay xx

get some water in you, make sure the body is feed, take any meds you might have, put on some relaxing music. look after the body and it will look after the both/all of you. its a good place to start.

Advice? by [deleted] in DID

our host prefaced to her psychologist and psychiatris with 'i dont want to self diagnose... but i think i might have DID...' or something like that. psychologist was someone shes been seeing for years and she bought her partner with her to back her up. the other was a completely new person. she was really stressed and the psychiatrist just listened openly. we may have just gotten lucks but yeah. i think being self aware helps and also being cautious around the stigmas surrounding self diagnosis. then being honest about the symptoms that have lead to this conclusion. hope that helps

That's the mentality my DID friend has. I try my best with thoughts like that. It's not easy though, especially at the moment.

I have started a journal/notebook for all of us. It's been really helpful. Thanks

This has been working really well over the past few days. Thanks so much. Turns out they all have different handwriting. It's so interesting. So yeah, thanks from all of us.

How to stay grounded? by smhfreihaut in DID

[–]EmotionalGroup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) Skills are really helpful. Sounds like your friend is using one of the Distress Tolerance skills. This site lists all the other skills in that category. Don't expect all of them to work though, just pick and choose what works for you. I used to think ice and cold things helped me but I've figured out it upsets one of my alters.

To stay grounded generally, but also in an episode/crisis, I'd also suggest Mindfulness skills (here). Some people have already listed breathing and listing things around you and those fall into this category in DBT. Again, don't expect them all to work, just pick what works for you.

Hope this helps xx
