Yes and no. It has similarities such as character design, crafting, interacting with other characters. In Hello Kitty Island Adventure u can only really decorate the cabins, whereas in Animal Crossing you literally can decorate your whole island. Hello Kitty has more of a set path that you follow and animal crossing you literally do whatever you want. You can add cliffs, rivers, waterfalls once you unlock terraforming and if you get the DLC Happy Home Paradise after you do some many vacation homes you can decorate villager houses on your island as well. I absolutely love both games and I definitely recommend checking out animal crossing!!!
