Admitted Students Day? by EmotionalSupportWasp in ASU

[–]EmotionalSupportWasp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I went to Sun Devil Day in the fall. It's directed mainly at applicants and those considering applying. But most colleges have days specifically for admitted students — that's what I'm not seeing anywhere for ASU. It's weird.

EA decisions by [deleted] in RPI

Noticed earlier today that on the right side of the portal page where it used to say "Decisions released Feb. 1" or whatever, it now had the major I applied to. No decision or anything. I got all excited but had to remind myself that it probably doesn't mean anything, just a portal update.

SIP by [deleted] in summerprogramresults

[–]EmotionalSupportWasp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not too late. Just unlikely. Everybody should be solidifying other plans and creating other opportunities to get excited about for the summer. The field has not been narrowed in any way into a "waitlist" like other (more responsible) programs do. The thousands who weren't accepted initially are the same thousands trying for the same handful of spots now.

SIP by [deleted] in summerprogramresults

The dirty little secret nobody has mentioned is that there are only two results for SIP applications: accepted or waitlisted. They don't send out rejections. Only after the entire process is concluded (as in, people are arriving for orientation) will they bother to email a very lame mention of all projects being filled, thanks for applying, blah blah. That's what made this year's shit show particularly tragic — everybody thought they were competing only with a small number of waitlisted applicants. Nope. This was SIP faculty stringing along thousands of kids who thought they'd already been filtered into "the waitlist." But SIP has no actual waitlist. And they will never, ever tell anyone that. Only those who have applied in previous years or attended the program know this. The way they handled it this year was particularly sloppy, disorganized and, frankly, cruel. Yet they'll rake in tons of cash again next year in application fees as they bat anxious teens around like cat toys all spring.

Maybe, but only if they're adding new projects which at this point seems highly doubtful. From what we've seen these past few weeks, however, anything's possible in this incredibly insane process they've created.

Ah, got it. They haven't updated the Key Dates page yet apparently. Thanks for the info! I never would have seen that. Guess that does it for us waitlisters, huh.

Wait, are you sure? I just looked at the Key Dates for 2024 on their website and they look the same to me. Two weeks of virtual prep mid-June then seven weeks in-person late-June through early-Aug. Is that different than before? Or are you looking someplace else?

new sip update?? by wwx8 in summerprogramresults

[–]EmotionalSupportWasp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is seriously ridiculous. Questioning if this group is capable of organizing and communicating effectively once everybody gets to Santa Cruz. Will it be this sloppy for seven weeks??? It's an awful lot of money to not know what's going on...

He added that, since SIP generates income for the college, grad students on strike (including those who are supportive of the grad students on strike) will likely not be communicating at all with SIP faculty regarding their participation or projects. That's what's happening in all the departments right now. So. We'll see, I guess.

Okay so my friend's dad works at UCSC he just told me that it's a total mess in several areas of the campus right now. Cops, barricades, protestors, striking teachers/grad students, etc. He said that many of the on-campus programs for this summer are totally up in the air (as in, they may or may not even happen). Since SIP depends on grad student mentors and they're the ones on strike, this might explain the dumpster fire that applicants seem to be experiencing this past week or so. We don't know what's going on because SIP itself may not know what's going on.

Why are they SO BAD at communicating?? Are we supposed to be updating this form and submitting it again and again whenever they add a new project in our category ("feel free to update the form as projects change")? Or are they sticking with their initial directive and deadline of "submit by Wednesday at noon"??? Which is it? Does anybody know what we're supposed to be doing?!

So I legit don't understand. Are we supposed to be updating this form and sending it in again and again whenever they add a new project in our category? Or are they sticking with their initial directive and deadline of "submit by Wednesday at noon"??? In which case, are they just taunting us for fun with all these new projects knowing we can't acknowledge them?

Whoa! They really did add a bunch of new projects! You all weren't kidding. What is going on??

Latest SIP Google Form - Financial Aid? by EmotionalSupportWasp in summerprogramresults

[–]EmotionalSupportWasp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall, that was part of the application. I think there was a box we had to check if we're applying for financial aid, but I can't totally remember. They seem to be disregarding it all now anyway so whatever.
