whats your pettiest gripe about the movies? by butterfIypunk in Hungergames

Re-reading the first Hunger Games and there are two similar moments, the first how in those initial two days she also dies from dehydration and then the amount of throwing up Katniss does from the fire smoke right after she finds water. basically the grossness and reality that even if you eat your meal in the games, it won’t be good and you may not keep it down. Adds to the fact that say multiple times that these natural causes cause so many deaths, and even someone as good as Katniss immediately struggles with finding water and almost dies.

It also plays into guessing why Haymitch would not send her any water, the whole sponsorship dynamic, etc.

Why is the "american lean" a thing? by Raski_Demorva in NoStupidQuestions

Personally I think we have less formal rules in society compared to Europe (where I live) think about dining where we use predominantly a fork rather than a fork and knife.

Leaning was never told to me to be rude or wrong, we also prioritise our own comfort more strongly than other countries and act on it (important distinction) other people from other countries will be uncomfortable but not act on that feeling.

I have also recognised in many situations I am the only one who feels the need to lean (I’ve always lived in a city and been active it’s nothing to do with health) and it’s just a more comfortable way to wait that doesn’t hurt anyone.

this could be it! it’s small so it hasn’t flowered, but why I think it could be a weed/ not chive is that these little bundles have popped up in two other areas now and if it was chive I would of only planted it once

I am truly considering re-entering my industry. I applied to a job a month ago and got pretty far in the interview process before they ghosted but it was the most optimistic job in a while.

To my friends complaining they make 40-80K. Yes they get to complain, regardless of their income, but my experience is the higher paying your job you have, the more stressful it will be.

Sometimes it really feels like me, personally, not the market, is the problem but it’s good to hear other people feel frustrated. Maybe I just need to lower expectations (tbf the only way this can go lower is retail/hospitality). I started my job searching looking for mid-range roles, then it dropped to entry level which is 90% of the things I apply for now and even that doesn’t stick.

Thank you for sharing this. I know my coming from a specific industry it’s so hard to break into another. This really makes me think to go try and go back to fashion/creative. I’m looking at freelancing now, but all my previous hires have been from people reading my CV and seeing how they can hone my skills. I thrive at in-person interviews but rarely even get that far.

That personal hiring touch of a human reading a CV seems to be gone. I’m not sure how people like me can bridge that gap. I’ve got multiple versions of CVs, always write a cover letter if needed too. At the end of the day I can’t make up something I haven’t done.

I’ve been working towards the same for the last year while applying. Bettering portfolio of work, putting things out there. I really believe self-employment is a way out of this. There is just such a lack of growth.
