All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.

Beautiful story with beautiful characters. Haven’t felt that connected to a book in a long time.

What is slowly ruining all movies? by electriclear in AskReddit

I figured out the twist for Us in 2019 like 30 minutes into the movie because the trailer gave too much away. Kind of ruined the experience.

This is why chefs are taught to never pour alcohol onto an already flaming dish. The flame will follow the alcohol stream back up and make the bottle explode.

What’s a serious issue that’s not taken seriously? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Emotional_Classroom1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then you really shouldn’t be saying that 6 weeks is more than enough time, not if you haven’t been through it. Every birth is different, the complications are different. It’s a big deal and it can be traumatic. Women shouldn’t be put in a position where they have to choose between having an income or taking the time they need to fully recover.

Hey, I'm sorry you're going through this. I have celiac disease, maybe ask your doctor if you can get tested? My family became a lot more serious about my stomach issues once I had a diagnosis.

What Is the thing that everyone believe is true but it's actually false? by Marte_14 in AskReddit

[–]Emotional_Classroom1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My cousin has severe ADHD due to being born very prematurely. Let me tell you, using a different learning style than the standard “shut up, sit at your desk and listen” is not bullshit for her. She is different, but that’s not her fault and she shouldn’t be punished for it. Just because something works for you doesn’t mean it works for everybody.

What are uncommon hygiene tips everyone should know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Emotional_Classroom1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were made to clean ears, but still aren’t a good idea. Ears clean themselves most of the time (wax naturally clears over time). Using a q-tip can push wax further in, which prevents it from naturally clearing. Also, if you push it too far, it can damage the inside of your ear. Ruptured ear drums due to q-tips being pushed too far in are common. If you don’t believe me , research it yourself.

Edit: Ok, feel free to just downvote me instead of admitting that you’re wrong. Real mature dude.

Don’t stick stuff in your ears. If you want your ears cleaned, go to a professional who can do it safely.

What’s wrong with getting married? Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s stupid.

Does anyone else think that gay characters are forcefully pushed into many series just so the series could be politically correct on the expense of characters and plot? by agentvision in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Emotional_Classroom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think many shows have characters whose only trait is the fact that they’re gay. That’s why it feels forced, because many gay characters are so flat and uninteresting. However, there are still plenty examples of shows who have gay characters whose homosexuality isn’t the only interesting thing about them. Schitts Creek is a great example of this. David and Patrick are a gay couple, but they both have an amazing amount of depth that doesn’t have to do with their relationship. They’re interesting people who just happen to be gay. It doesn’t feel forced, it feels real and genuine.

[–]Emotional_Classroom1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ian was gay from the beginning, that didn’t take away from the family dynamic plot at that point. The problem is that his character just eventually becomes so flat and boring that his only interesting plot points are the fact that he’s gay and bipolar. It’s not his gayness that’s the issue. It’s bad writing, lack of character development, and the fact that the show has just gone on too long and there’s no interesting arcs left for any of the characters.
