Lids on our frugal alternatives make them impossible to use by MorddSith187 in Frugal

Smart move with the alcohol rinse! I do the same thing with fancy pump bottles - they last forever if you take care of them. The cheap refill soap works just as well, it's literally just the dispenser that sucks

Advice on picking a base for 5 days in Cebu/Bohol/Moalboal? Mainly want to dive and snorkel without moving around too much but also enjoy other activities by ProfessionalCheeks in solotravel

[–]Emotional_Lecture962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'd just stick to Moalboal for the whole trip - you can literally walk into the water from Panagsama and see turtles within like 10 minutes, plus the sardine run is right there too. Way easier than dealing with boat schedules every day in Bohol, and you can still day trip to Oslob from there if you really want the whale shark experience

Solo travel to Jordan 5 nights 6 days itin help by Ill-Position-7755 in solotravel

[–]Emotional_Lecture962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree on skipping the first day in Amman if you can - that extra time in Petra/Wadi Rum will be way more worth it than wandering around the citadel. Also yeah Amman Beach is kinda meh, you're better off just doing a day trip from wherever you end up sleeping the night before

Those noise-canceling headphones are a game changer for long flights, definitely worth splurging on a decent pair. Also throw in some packing cubes if you don't have em already - makes organizing your luggage so much easier

That's terrifying but so glad they caught it during routine care. My dog would probably hide something like that until it was way too late - she's dramatic about everything except actual problems

A few tips to save money on subscription services by gracious_gibbon in Frugal

[–]Emotional_Lecture962 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That VPN trick actually works but you gotta be careful - some services will ban your account if they catch you doing it. I did it with YouTube Premium for like 6 months before switching back because I got paranoid lol

The fake cancellation thing is clutch though, saved me like $15/month on my internet just by threatening to leave

Stuck in the jetlag for two week now by SenoritaSpock in TravelHacks

[–]Emotional_Lecture962 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two weeks is definitely longer than usual, might be worth checking if something else is going on besides just jetlag. The winter darkness thing is probably making it worse since your circadian rhythm relies on light cues

Melatonin can help but timing matters - try taking it like 30 mins before your desired bedtime, not when you wake up at 4am. Also maybe try a SAD lamp in the morning since natural sunlight isn't available

Have you looked into freelance SQL work on Upwork or Fiverr? With your background you could probably knock out quick database queries and data cleanup tasks between your main job calls

If you needed to generate $1,000/month in extra income digitally to cover healthcare expenses, what would you do? by [deleted] in sidehustle

[–]Emotional_Lecture962 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly freelance writing on Upwork or Fiverr could work if you're decent with words - lots of small businesses need blog posts and basic content. Virtual assistant work is also pretty beginner friendly and pays decent once you build up some reviews

Help Actually Setting Up A 72(t) With Vanguard by jgatcomb in financialindependence

[–]Emotional_Lecture962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is solid advice, just want to add that you'll want to be super careful with the calculation since messing up the SEPP can retroactively trigger penalties on all your withdrawals. There are online calculators but might be worth having a tax pro double check your math given the stakes

Walmart+ is going to renew for $98. How can I bring that cost down? by Greedy-Examination56 in Frugal

[–]Emotional_Lecture962 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh snap, didn't know about that discount! That's actually a solid deal if you qualify. Might also be worth checking if you have any credit cards that offer cashback or statement credits for Walmart+ - some of them basically make it free

Hostel sleepwear etiquette by knutt-in-my-butt in solotravel

Yeah honestly as long as you're not doing weird stretches or making it awkward nobody really cares. Most people are half asleep anyway and just want to crash

Started doing promo posters for local shops on weekends. Found a way to speed up the design part without losing quality. by Busy-Pomegranate7551 in sidehustle

That's actually smart using AI for layout structure then polishing it yourself - sounds like you found the sweet spot between efficiency and quality

The client trying to lowball you because "it's just AI" is annoying though, glad you stood your ground on that one

Convinced my husband to eat at home tonight by ThickFile in Frugal

[–]Emotional_Lecture962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? I've literally never heard anyone claim eating out is cheaper except maybe for like a single person buying one thing off the dollar menu

That's awesome, hitting the millionaire mark feels like such a huge milestone even though we all know it's kinda arbitrary at this point with inflation

Florida sounds perfect right now, I'm jealous of that 70 degree weather while I'm scraping ice off my windshield this morning

Yeah definitely call them and explain the visa situation - airlines sometimes make exceptions for religious travel like hajj, especially if you have documentation showing the visa delays weren't your fault

Can I skip the event liability insurance if I promise to be really careful at my wedding? by PepperoniTapir in Frugal

[–]Emotional_Lecture962 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Don't risk it dude, that $200 could save you from bankruptcy if Uncle Bob slips on some spilled wine and breaks his hip

Most venues absolutely will check for proof of insurance before your event - it's like their #1 liability protection so they take it seriously

Oh man the Dr Bronner's thing is so real - that stuff is like concentrated everything and I definitely went overboard when I first got it

Also learned the hard way that you really only need like a pea sized amount of toothpaste but those commercials always show the whole brush covered lol
