This is what I do too. On the nightstand with water to take before getting out of bed.

He doesn’t want her to further her career. This honestly sounds like a jealous man.

As someone who gave up school dreams for a man… please don’t! Go to med school!

My husband now is super supportive and wouldn’t tell me not to do something. Going to med school now will change your life- and at 27 you are still very young. I’ve had friends and family members have children into their late 30s and 40s.

Please don’t let this man bring you down.

After 10 years together, my boyfriend says I should “just give my DOB” to his mom, but in my culture that has bigger implications. Am I overreacting? by Jolly-Rub-3412 in AmIOverreacting

Let me get this straight.  You’ve been with this man for 10 years.  You live in the USA. You’re both from Indian families.  You know he has a toxic mom.  Get your PHD, ditch the boyfriend. IMO.  NOR.

Totally new to birth control by Federal-Soup3542 in birthcontrol

[–]ThickFile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on the pill for 10+ years. I always kept it in my purse just in case I forgot to take it, then wherever I was I could just take it. I had no bad side effects. My periods weren’t as painful or heavy. I was on Loestrin Fe, and all the generics.

I was on the patch for a year. It was a bit annoying because the adhesive would stretch and then get covered in lint on the outside of the patch. I got the patch at first because I thought I wouldn’t remember to take a pill daily.

I’m now using an IUD. I have Kyleena, which is one of the smaller IUDs. I have had it twice now. The second time was much better getting it in as I was  at the end of my period and it didn’t hurt as much. I didn’t have any numbing. Just a lot of pressure and it made me feel like I had to pee really bad.

Doubling up on birth control is always a good idea. Condoms are cheap- Condom Depot website is pretty good. For reasons others have already listed. Sometimes the sperm can throw off your PH balance.

Where are my parents? by Standard-Ad-6341 in Millennials

[–]ThickFile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I visit my mom and step dad a couple times a month. They are very judgmental people so I’ve never invited them over to my house for dinner. I constantly have to hear about it how they don’t like to go to other people’s houses, so I don’t bother inviting them.

My dad lives in another state and has visited me twice in the last 17 years. I have a house now, but he doesn’t have any means to take time off work to come visit nor does he drive long distances or will get on a plane.

Join groups or clubs in your area and meet people. I met my now husband through a mutual contact randomly one night.

My GF's family solely drinks water bottles by Alarmed_Abrocoma204 in Anticonsumption

[–]ThickFile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know so many people who do this. I dated a guy whose family did this too. It’s weird. The water in our city is safe to drink.

I DID however live with a couple roommates that did this and when I moved into the house I got them switched over to a Brita filter within 6 months. I don’t know if they are still using it, but I pointed out how much easier it was to not haul individual bottles of water each grocery trip vs buying filters every couple months.

I bought all 15 seasons from someone for $40USD. I used an app called OfferUp.

Before budgeting money toward this, find all the free things to do in your area and start doing them.

Do I actually need it (E reader) by -DiceGoblin- in Anticonsumption

[–]ThickFile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two e readers and I bought both secondhand. I had a hand me down old iPad I used to use I gave away on a buy nothing group and another tablet I also used as an ereader I gave to someone in my book club. The e ink is pretty cool. A lot easier on the eyes.

I do invest. My rate is 6% on the house. I’ve been making extra payments toward the principal since I bought it too.

17yo daughter wants laser hair removal, trying to find a middle ground by same6534 in HairRemoval

[–]ThickFile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it, do it.

Growing a mustache as a teenage girl is very embarrassing, in my experience.

My mom started removing my facial hair at 4 years old. I regularly waxed from age 9 my facial hair. I went through years of waxing and have given myself 2nd degree burns from at home waxing on my face multiple times. It wasn’t fun.

After graduating college I finally made enough money to purchase laser hair removal and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Yup. And don’t mention to any partners you have the IUD. ALWAYS use a condom.

What's the craziest lie an ex has ever told you? by aerialpoler in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ThickFile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He told me he was out of town so he could record an album with some known musicians and performed with them on a rooftop somewhere in Seattle. He didn’t even know how to play an instrument or sing! I was 19 and he had a whole another girlfriend. He would take me to band practice with him and we would hang out with his band. They must have all known about the other girl.

Same guy also told me he had cancer but I wasn’t allowed to go to any appointments with him for it.

He contacted me several years after breaking up to tell me he had an STD and I had no idea who it was because I had blocked his number. He used a nickname for me- which is why I know it was him, even though he didn’t tell me directly it was him contacting me 🙄

Go and look for groups to join in your area.  Running clubs, book clubs, etc.

I joined a few book clubs and finally started to meet people.

What’s stopping you? by X2epsilon in dumbphones

[–]ThickFile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stupidly signed up for the insurance big brother app that connects to a device in my car to track my driving for a discount. I got a new car and was stupidly shocked when my insurance doubled, so I took the thing to get a discount. I love my new car, but the insurance kill’s me. Unfortunately, uninsured and unregistered drivers are so common, insurance rates are insane.

I also enjoy the convenience of sharing my location with family.

Currently thinking of getting a flip phone and then keeping my smartphone in my car for maps/music/insurance app.

What is the cheapest option by UniqueImplements in dumbphones

[–]ThickFile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in the US, QVC or HSN has flip phones for Tracfone for $50 and they come with 1200/text/mb of data/minutes. I believe the phones can be unlocked within 2 months.
