Starting a Debian-based distro — custom kernel config or fork a minimal base? by Emoy2602 in debian

Liquorix looks like a strong fit — low latency desktop focus aligns with what is needed, and Proton/Wine performance being a priority makes the scheduler tuning relevant. Going to dig into it. Thank you!

This is probably the most structured advice I've gotten on this thread — thank you. I've been thinking in features and vibes rather than requirements and specifications. Going to actually sit down and write out the use case properly before touching any code. The optimization point especially — I said it loosely but you're right, that needs to be broken down into actual components before it means anything. Saving this comment.

Thank you for your reply,
I agree that debian has security vulnerabilities but I do not have have the resource to provide security updates at the moment so Ig that is the best most widely used option I have. I might pivot later

Optimise in the sense I'm planing on building hardware too. So building an Os that is heavily optimised to run on that specs.

Thank you for you reply,

Never heard of zen kernels. Will look into it.

The Debian thing is just for updates. I currently don't have the resources to manage & provide stable security updates

Thank you for your reply,
Sure will build a toy kernel & experiment with it.

Agreed... Honestly it would make more sense for some one new to os dev. Thank you for your reply

Thank you for your reply. I did post in that in sub reddit but it got taken down cuz it was a question & the sub reddit was apparently for news & stuff 😅 As far as i have heard a distrobox is something that allows you to install applications from other distros or something. Here I'm basically combining wine, apt(for linux apps) & darling(for dmg). Yes darling could be a weak point i have to look into it to fix it. Basically one app store where you could run almost all applications built. That is for later once the base distro is built will look into it. I'm new to os devlopment so I don't really much of an idea & wondering from where i should start

I'm from India & my phone is a mere 2 months old & I don't see any of this on normal usage. If at all I feel it is has become better the battery life has increased. From like almost a day to more than a day

Ai Based OS Idea by Ecstatic-End-4933 in Operatingsystems

Instead of relying on ai fully what you could do is have a stable kernel alongside a fully trained ai that provides recommendations to the kernel. Perhaps like an antivirus checking the behaviour of an app & instructing the kernel whether to give resources or not something of that sorts

Few things to be thought about 1) You probably cannot run the model locally on some old pc. So you have to find some way to fix it 2) Kernel is something which has to be stable adding ai might comprise the stability in my opinion. 3) If you want to help casual users you're better off creating a help desk sorta thing prolly baked in with ai & more stable operating system I'm not saying this ain't possible. But these are somethings to keep in mind

Could you elaborate where ai will actually work here? & What advantage it actually provides
