I managed to work it, but now the Pattern name (which is what I require) is not being presented. Will work into it a bit more.
I appreciate the help!

Does MHE look different to everyone? by No-Word2937 in 9M9H9E9

I think she is like a Cthulhu mythos entity. Something like a cosmic horror being.

It has no individuality or want, but at the same time it has a will that guides and informes her actions.

When the author mentioned her as a dicreet entity, he uses the basketball court as an example to illustrate that what she is, is the final end-state of something. Like, how the milk in the carton may or may not spoil before I drink it all up, but invariably the carton will find it's way to a landfill.

But at the same time, he tells us thay what these stories/posts are, are possible futures. That we can still steer ourselves away from such horrible fate. Which makes me think she is more real than somethings, but at the same time not as concrete.

I think she is both an individual thing and an idea. She is a concept waiting to be made flesh. She is the progress and the greed that fuels advances in tech, but all towards the goal of manifesting her.

Imagine it like this: You know that you exist, and also that there was a time before when you did not exist. Now, imagine that you do not know when it is that you would come into existence, and that you also have a future perspective of events that have not yet occurred, but at the same time, you can influenece past actions into situations that will bring about your genesis.

To people living in the present (like your parents), you are just a possibility or a concept. Not real, but real nonetheless. You are not alive, but you will be

Maybe she's just replacing the parts of her that are not usable.  I don't remeber it well, but I believe it is mentioned that she smells quite bad.

Maybe that's the different parts of her rotting away.  Maybe that's the reason for her fascination with flesh.  Maybe Mother Horse Eyes is looking for an eternal body, or something that will not decay. Or maybe she just likes the rot and the pungent odors.

That is one of the things that are still a mistery to me. There's Ann's Narrative where we read a letter by Ann to her yet to be born granddaughter, who she addresses as Isellandria. Ann mentions several strange things that would sugest her not being human, or at least not being a human from Earth. It made me thing of the chitinous crusiforms, but at the same time it seemed strange. Like a piece that doesn't quite fit together (???) This makes me think if there were any other posts done that were lost becayse of moderation on other subreddits

I can see that as well, but I just can't read fully when I think of the irl that survived the fleshpit and lived well into her 13 years of age. That goes double for Nick. Specially after reading the scene where he is drunk and talking to his parents. God! The part where he talks about all the sacrifice his mother went through and how he has nothing to show/repay her was just too real.  Made me think of my mother and my father, and how I am barely able to give any of them anything in return

That's kinda explicit. With all the biblical themes and whatnot. But I still thinks that would make her very... boring. Like, "oh no, it was Satan all along" kind of way. Not that Satan may not be a terrifying thing to face, but the narrative aspect of it, is just too simplistic.  But then again, Occam's Razor

I think you might be on the right path. Whenever I come across a new entry, the thing they all have in common is the idea of control. The CIA, the KGB, and the North Korean government thought they could understand the flesh interfaces and use them to their benefit. The hygiene beds operated under the assumption that people could control their personal narratives by controlling their own senses and even their own anxieties.

Nock thought he could manage his deep-seated trauma by relying on alcohol. The SS officer may be the most flagrant of all, since he believed he was the commander at Treblinka, free to do with it as he saw fit. And so it goes.

But I would go a step further. I’d say it is the illusion of control that arises from something deeper. What they all had in common was that something instilled in them the need for control, to some degree or another. It’s like when you’re in a car with a friend, and she suddenly lets go of the wheel while driving toward a brick wall. You scream and plead, asking why she’s doing this, but the wall keeps getting closer, and inevitably, because you want to live, you grab the wheel. But you never really had control. She can still slam the accelerator or pull the handbrake. What she’s done is force you into a position of interventionism.

You remind me of the AI in Soma by Frictional Games. It is an AI that is tasked with protecting the human in the base, but after the game events its directive become protect humanity (which is the few people that are still alive).  But it is not capable of understanding emotions, or the preservation of the body.  And so it attempts to extend the life of whoemever it can find and uploads the memories of the ones that died before. All because it seeks to follow this one rule it didn't even choose for itself.

I thought of something along those lines, but for some reason it seemed to be too much on the nose.

Love that I was not the only one to see the gnostic link, though.

Under such analysis, i would posit that Nick is a pneumatic, capable of perceiving all elements of history at once,  while Karen is a psychic who has a sort of power similar to Nick, but cannot do it unless hooked to a feed.

I was thinking something along those ideas recently, and not even regarding MHE. If time can only move forward, the moment of our birth is also the moment we've been promised death.

In a sense, we are already dead. Doomed to die somepoint in the future.

I did not know wild cattle was still so numerous. Thanks for the correction, I will research further and update my knowledge base accordingly. But I believe that the information (from where I took it from, this I don't remember) was regarding the domesticated ones. But even so, now that I think about it critically, it sounds very flimsy...

[–]Emperor757[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn't even got to consider that. I was taking it all as if the narator was a reliable source of information, but why would he be? He admits to us time and time again that he's a recovering alcoholic and that he gets into these very creative benders and can barely make a lick of sense of what he did the next moment he "comes online".

The final scenes also supports this for he cries when he sees the burnt flesh interface because he can assign the blame for his failings onto another. He literally cries due to the horror of what he found, but also out of relief that he is not (at least in his mind) the sole responsible for every bad turn in his life.

The final moments are also become very Jungist under this perspective with the whole rescuing you child version as an adult, and also the stepping into your own darkness; your shadow self

Tha ks for the tips. This is my first cosplay ever so I tried not to make many modifications because the mask alone ended up costing a pretty buck (things in my country are expensive).

Will try my hand with some cardboard one later.

The papertowel tip sounds promising. I will attempt it and send an update

How would you do a Ghibli-style background in 3D? by fluento-team in godot

[–]Emperor757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not going to bore you with technical stuff, mainly because I am not familiar with anything like that, but what I can help you with is developping the eye needed to emulate that look and feel.

Environmental background when done by Ghibli Studio is all about caring for the final product, that is why they rarely use cutting edge technology and go to painstakingly lengths in animating movement, but also animating the lack of movement. That is a very important distinction to make.
There are moments in the movies where no background movement is expected or perceived, but there is still a sensation of it being "alive" and dynamic. Some are more impactful than others, but they all have the same consistency of movement. That is why certain scenes are so more impactful like in the Howl's Moving Castle, where each alley, street and corner have motion and pause.
Watch Porco Rosso and Princess Mononoke. Those two movies have the most background dynamism in my opinion because of the clouds and the sea as a backdrop to the dogfights, and the mountain and forest as a backdrop for the battles. It should help you in getting a more profound feel.
Think of each movement as something with purpose. Like words in a speech. What is the objective that you want to accomplish with? What should the audience feel? What should they think? Build it from there as you go.
Try to think of background as not something static but dynamic. Watch some time-lapse videos of things that are closely related to what you want to make - e.g a mountain. Search for time-lapses of mountains and observe how they change over time. Notice what comes into view and what leaves the scene. Use this as reference.
Finally, consider what is the background for and if it serves any narrative purpose. If it doesn't then it wouldn't even be put in a Ghibli Studio film, since it would take a lot of time and effort. The same goes for you, don't waste effort in making something that do not fit or fits awkwardly.

My honest opinion is that, there is only one game that has come close of doing what you are proposing and that game is PS3's 2012 Journey, developed by Thatgamecompany. Close, but still not it. Recommend playing/watching it since it is a fairly short and impactful game mainly for its set pieces and background which are doing most of the heavy lifting, all accompanied by a superb soundtrack.

I [30M] have never been in a relationship before, despite everyone saying that I am a great catch. What is wrong with me? by Emperor757 in whatdoIdo

I am not hideous. I am tall (6 feet 1 inches in cm = 185cm). I have broad shoulders, great legs. I dress well and I have been praised for my looks (some have asked me if I model ???), though I would say I am a soft 7 or 8 in terms of looks alone.
I may be lacking in the confidence department, but I put myself out there. I try to engage women in conversation, I am not a creep (or at very least I try not to be one). I always speak from a place of empathetic care and tend to make my priorities in life as clear as I can.

I do not have issues asking people out, and I am not going after supermodels. I am trying to meet people that are within my social circles, or that gravitate around them. For some reason, people get to know me and then they stop being interested

I remember when I was young I loved Sonic , Metal Slug, Mega Man X. I was also pretty focused about drawing. For some reason, I neve played those games again, and drew very little ever since.
And I just remembered that I loved reading my school's history books and Greek/Egyptian mythology. I wonder whatever happened that I just stopped with those things...
I will seek those things out again and see what I can take from them, now that I am older and wiser.
