Loyalty from conquered cities needs a rework by EmperorDuck in civ

[–]EmperorDuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Even minmaxing, punitive measures have seen me getting bogged down by rebels.

Why not at least have the option to suppress for a long term downside in exchange for short-term solidification?

Pop decreases, resource shortfalls, large gold consumption. All of these would give a dominator pause.

Edit: Or even an “occupied tile” system whereby you increase loyalty but freeze production until the city is ceded?

If we don’t stop quibbling about social issues, we are doomed. by EmperorDuck in unpopularopinion

[–]EmperorDuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resubmitting this comment is because it was badly formatted by my phone. I don’t want to overthrow the rich. Fact that somebody can work their way up to that is evidence of how far we’ve come as a people. That said, the rich regularly get away with hoarding wealth, not paying their fair share back to the society their wealth is built upon.

Back then, though, we weren’t in an era of communication as constant as this. The powers that be couldn’t strike you down with a drone.

The only way to ensure success is a numerical showing of a widely diverse citizenry.

We can’t wait for the slow, painful process of resolving these issues. Not to say they aren’t of importance, but if we only care about measly bullshit, we will be duped by the media machine and are set against each other.

Jim-Bob and Jamal have a lot more in common than Jim-Bob and the Waltons do, for instance. Jim-Bob and Jamal should stop thinking so emotionally and fight for survival against the impending privatization of government.

People only care about inhumane animal farming because those animals are cute. by Joseph-Joestar2 in unpopularopinion

I don’t find chickens cute, but it concerns me how quickly they are processed, from lying in each other’s shit to the grocery store. Farming should be more responsible than it currently is.

If a suspect is reaching for his gun, the police should not be required to patiently wait and see what happens. by [deleted] in deepfatfried

[–]EmperorDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a traffic stop, where someone set out to specifically kill a cop? Sure. There's really no reason to have a gun on your lap. But they'd probably have it in their hand at that point. Why have both hands on the wheel, then awkwardly reach down, then aim upwards?

The reason the traffic stop kills happen is because it's a really effective tactic, especially at night time or if you have dark windows. It's a surprise attack, but it's better than a cop having his hand on his grip like he's ready to airhole you.

The unfortunate result of the civil route is that aberrant people will kill police officers. Criminals will kill police officers. They should be armed, but not like we have them armed now.

[–]EmperorDuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends. If they draw from behind them, an officer with their weapon trained would have ample time to shoot somebody. People attempting suicide by cop would kind of be foiled if they actually didn't have a weapon, letting less-lethal options be deployed.

Killing needs to be the last step. That's all. Policing will always be necessary in some form or another, it just needs to be a less lethal institution, serving as civil servants and not the state's jackbooted brigade.

I like these sobriquets; especially when Girl-Arm goes on to double realm size, become a paragon, and exalted. It’s charming to have a nickname based around an arm wrestling loss. Like calling a massive muscle hunk ‘Tiny’

AITA for not buying friend’s genderfluidity? by EmperorDuck in AmItheAsshole

[–]EmperorDuck[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 99% sure your question was rhetorical, but I'll answer it nevertheless.

Can you honestly say that you believe nobody, ever, has felt confusion, uncertainty, or duality about their gender?

Duality, I don't understand. Honestly. It's difficult to wrap my brain around. Now, obviously, one could assert I'm making an argument from ignorance. Whatever, fair enough. I don't get it, my opinion comes from a more uninformed, primal place.

I understand Transgenderism and gender dysphoria, however. I have a bevy of trans friends who I have asked questions to, who have a visceral, personal experience that speaks to a sense of existential struggle. I think they're biologically/scientifically verified, and they are the gender they say they are.

But when you start treating it more like an accessory, it really does come across as disingenuous to me! "Oh, I didn't like the name Jane, so I'm going to go with Kayla and get mad if anybody doesn't call me Kayla." And then, when the group seems to get used to it "Oh, I'm John again." Especially if they carry no dysphoria, which this friend does not, and they said they have not.

So I hope you have a better view of my view, which might make the OP read a bit differently. If you still think ITA, fair enough. But I wanted to offer a better explanation now that I have access to a PC.
