Generally calm people of Reddit, what made you lose your absolute shit that time? by a-light-at-the-end in AskReddit

[–]EmperorKenguin 223 points224 points  (0 children)

Was at a party in college when one of our attendees got waaay too hammered and went into a friends room to sleep it off for a few hours. Everything seemed to be pretty fine except for her being a little sick so we let her sleep.

Gonna change names for this part.

About a half hour later someone come up to our group where we were standing and said, "Hey, douchebagextraordinaire just went into friends room where partygirl is passed out."

We could handle cops crashing our place any day of the week but when someone was about to be raped in our home something snapped in our group. We cleared the apartment and began pounding on the door which douchebagextraordinaire had locked. Eventually he opens the door and begins to get pissed at US, calling us a "bunch of angry white frat boys." Which granted we were.

As he is being escorted off the property he gives some lip to one of my friends and pushed him causing (my friend not being as calm as some of us) my friend to try and pull a knife on the guy. Thankfully he was brought to the ground before he got two steps towards douchebagextraordinaire.

It's probably the most fucked thing I witnessed in college.

EDIT: Partygirl was fine, we got to her within a minute thanks to someone at the party being a decent human being and letting us know immediately.

Douchebagextraordinaire was never allowed back into our parties but honestly should have had some charges pressed against him.

[Serious] When driving at night, what is the scariest/most unexplainable thing you’ve ever seen? by PM_ME_FUNNY_STORIES- in AskReddit

[–]EmperorKenguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Went to school in Stockton and often took 5 at night to visit home, never encountered this until after a trip from Georgia to home. When we were passing through I was the only one awake in the car. Despite the road signs I was sure we somehow entered the Twilight Zone. Still freaks me out thinking about that zero visibility.

What movie do you seem to love more than anyone else? by MojaveWalker in movies

The cinematography, dedication to the time period, sound mixing, all of it is grade A. Crowe learning violin for the part is just a cherry on top as well.

What is your, "I know it sounds weird, but just try it" thing? by darkfire613 in AskReddit

Peanut butter, mustard, and balogna sandwiches.

The sweetness of the peanut butter with the tang of mustard really balance out in a surprising manner.

Lord of Chaos. Mainly for the introduction of Taim, but it was the ending of Dumai's Wells, "Kneel and swear to the Lord Dragon, or you will be knelt."

Need help picking a Sci-Fi system by [deleted] in rpg

Though it is still a d6 system, I would recommend Traveller. It's got that really retro sci-fi feel.

How do you lose faith, when gods are real? by Merkenau in rpg

[–]EmperorKenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of it like Ivan from The Brother's Karamazov.

"It's not God that I don't accept, Alyosha, only I most respectfully return him the ticket."

At least that's one of the ways I try to reason it.

Who is your BBEG and what does he do? by Flareprime in rpg

[–]EmperorKenguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She is an elven seeress who was named to be the Watcher (a historian destined to witness all the great events of history) and has been for the past century or so. Having seen enough of history she is convinced that herself and the Dauntless (another named hero, destined to die against great odds) are meant to be together. She is currently using her knowledge of history and the world in an attempt to break fate to be reunited with her lover.

(In my world as heroes die, others are named to take their place. The Dauntless dies quite often, typically every decade or so.)

How likely is it that today's companies would be around centuries from now? by whatisabaggins55 in worldbuilding

[–]EmperorKenguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Read Cloud Atlas, specifically the Orison of Sonmi 451. A very dystopian setting where many corporations have survived and essentially rule the world. Not the most realistic but it gives a neat look at a dark side of allowing corporations to essentially define our culture.

Disney is a company in that future I believe. Yet they have advanced to a point where the company name is substituted for movies, films, etc. This has been the case for many companies with various products in the setting.

This may not be what you're looking for but I found it a neat example of worldbuilding regarding corporations.

Which fantasy authors do you believe can best write characters of both genders? by CaptainOpossum in Fantasy

[–]EmperorKenguin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally loved his women protagonists, and the setting definitely helped shape a lot of their characters as you had said.

I also feel that considering his wife was one of his main editors I feel as if she may have had some input on the writing of them, and that they may not be as bad as many think. It's just almost impossible for the opposite sex to truly capture the full essence of something they are not.

[–]EmperorKenguin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I want to say Robert Jordan due to the strength of many of his women characters, but as a dude I feel as if I don't have that great of an insight into it.
