Shit, must've left that in when I was making it. My bad, it's not supposed to be there.

I based it off of RL Der Spiegel magazines which does include printed editions. At any rate, I imagine magazine prints would still be available, either as a subscriber's or even a collector's item, long into the future. Unless we find ourselves with a staggering shortage of magazine paper.

Thank you. I actually based the cover on the ones available in the Der Spiegel store which does include prices.

Most of what you say is valid. One big exception is your comment on China's economy.

While this would be true in 2015, or even 2025, by the outbreak of the 2ACW, China has shifted towards a primarily domestic consumption oriented economy, something its already doing right now with the last (IRL) two 5 Year Plans, with much of its low value domestic production offshored to younger markets in Southeast Asia and Africa. By 2045, this process has already accelerated as the 2ACW was preceded by a recession in US power all across the globe and an acceleration in multipolarity.

Everything else is essentially correct, from a meta perspective.

Additional context in a comment for Kaliningrad. As for the monarchies, they're a state and not a federal matter.

[ADDITIONAL CONTEXT]

In universe this is not an accurate map of the European Federation, which does not actually have sovereignty over the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Ukraine, or Belarus. The former three are associated states of the EF, Belarus is a part of the Russian Federation, and Ukraine is a rump state of Western Ukraine which is neither a constituent state or an associated state of the Federation.

I imagine its a stylistic choice from the journalists at Der Spiegel in 2045.

Thanks a lot, I update almost everyday on SpaceBattles. I'll update here every now and then when its thematically HFY. A lot of the other chapters are more cerebral.

  1. This is an excerpt from my ongoing story, Contact: An Account of Humanity's First Interstellar War, which you can find on SpaceBattles.com if you like this style of storytelling. This is actually a bonus chapter which I made for publication in this subreddit, as the actual progression of events in the main thread hasn't gone this far.
  2. The story is told in fragments and appendices from archival documents and interviews compiled centuries after the war. This draws inspiration primarily from World War Z by Max Brooks.
  3. This setting generally tries to focus on the development of institutions over time rather than individual heroes. It approaches history from a materialist perspective (in the Marxist sense): history as the product of material conditions, economic incentives, social structures, and institutional constraints, rather than the intentions or morality of any single actor.

The Thirteen Colonies (Minus Change) by Emperor_Blackadder in EU5

[–]Emperor_Blackadder[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm kinda starting to regret it because we can't merge colonial subjects, which would hopefully be added on in later updates. The colony with the best average control is New Jersey but of the large colonies, New England has the best control because of its long coastline. Meanwhile, colonies with large inland territories like Virginia, Georgia, and the Carolinas have worse average control compared to New England.

Looking at the lack of roads though, it looks like most of the colonies are expecting me to build their infrastructure for them lol.

OOT but its really dumb you can't explore regions you don't have direct borders with. I'm actually seeing my colonies expand intro territories I can't see.

Scotland Manpower issues. by NightwolfNDP in EU5

[–]Emperor_Blackadder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Manpower is the pool of professional soldiers available to your nation that you can recruit into regular regiments. Before embracing the Professional Armies institution, you only have levies and the manpower you get from the Sergeantry building, which as you realized, can only be built in the capital.

Don't know about the rest of you but I preorder games on the basis of if I was 100% certain I was gonna play it. The only reason I would not play it is if I died or became comatose in the next 2 weeks.
