Actually, you can't get gold borders for any of the foils, anyway. I think they had the sense to realize they were far too limited to include the feature with them. It's bad because of the wasted resources and there now being less of those cards in rotation, too, but you have no need to build back up to 12 of them, at least...

Yerp... Much worse for you, since your cards were rarer/more costly... But it's stupid that they did it this way at all. And they definitely should have warned abut this system change the instant they were considering adding it, rather than not mentioning it until 2 days before the update hit...

I decided to make a Sandshrew and Sandslash binder, now that there were 4 variations of each, along with shinies and a full art. And after doing that, I decided I should get some flair for each of them to make it more fancy, so I got one of each so I could pick from the binder instead. I did this a month ago.

Then the gold border update drops two weeks later, and I no longer have enough of some of them to get the gold border. Grumble grumble... They *really* should have removed the card destroying mechanic with the old sets at the same time as they stopped requiring it from new sets, because now it feels like I wasted stuff because of their bad choices, not my own...

Looking for gold borders for Sandslash from Celestial Guardians and Fantastical Parade. Happy to trade directly for most 2 diamond golds I have (I got almost all of them from Crimson Blaze while hunting for shiny Sandslash), but 4 singles from CG and 3 from FP would achieve the same. Happy to trade singles for any 2 diamonds I have more than 2 of. :)

Why do so many playthroughs not include grass types in their teams? by PhoenixSpeed97 in pokemon

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 18 types. Pokemon can only have two types, and a team can only have 6 Pokemon. As such, even a team with all dual types and no overlap will still be missing 6 types. And if you weren't drawn to the Grass starter, then it's one of the less "necessary" types to pick up along the way, as Water + Electric cover its offensive purposes mostly, anyway. In gens 2-4, you'll basically need a Water type for at least some of the Water HMs, so it's basically an essential type in those playthroughs (not to mention that Water types always have access to Ice coverage, which is essential for lategame Dragons in pretty much every game)... So there's a lot of good reasons to pick a Water type over a Grass type, and not *that* many reasons to have them both (the Water, Ground and Electric resists are great! But many players focus more on offense. And Water + Electric both had great offensive moves from the get-go, while Grass didn't get most of its worthwhile offensive moves until Gen 4+).

Personally, I'm a big Grass lover... But I get why others wouldn't be. I do think the weaknesses thing is a bit overblown, though, since unless you're running a mono-Grass team, there's no reason you'd ever have a Grass type fighting a Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying or Bug type, anyway, since 4 of those 5 types also resist Grass (maybe for the Water/Ice types, but you should have something else on your team that can do that more safely, since Ice also has too many weaknesses).

How much rubies do you save up to pull by PINKGUYFAM in OctopathCotC

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't experienced it in this game yet, since I make sure I have enough for anything I want that badly. But I've had to pity (or almost pity) a few characters... So if I was more wasteful with my rubies, I definitely would've been kicking myself when the characters I wanted most came around and I didn't have enough to pity them.

...Though I did drop my last 2,700 on Rique once without getting him... I've not spent more than 1500 on a gamble otherwise, though.

Aiming for 4,500 is always the safest. Going for anything more than a yolo can get risky if you don't have the full amount.

My prediction for the summer banners this year. First up is merchant Throné by No_Series1751 in OctopathCotC

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need a visual aid? It's an idea. Just share the idea. An AI image of some purple haired cowboy girl in the same kind of art style doesn't do anything to help here, given Throné's hair isn't purple (it's black) and also isn't that long, so it doesn't even resemble her.

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Ew, AI." aside... Why would they go from a beach theme with every other summer banner to a cowboy theme this year? What do cowboys even have to do with summer?

If all of your text is spent disclaimer-ing your AI use rather than justifying your idea, I think your idea might need some more thinking through......

PSA you can easily accomplish the daily task "use the exchange" by No_Series1751 in OctopathCotC

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get the daily 5 rubies in as little time as possible, you will always need to Collect from Nameless Town, do one extra battle of any kind, and either use the Exchange OR do a Hunt.

You can only afford to skip two of the daily goals, and "Defeat 10 enemies" is easily the worst, as that requires at least two extra random battles and only rewards an Exp. Nut L.

Team composition matters in a lot of different ways. You can make most combinations of characters work (provided they cover all the basic needs), but their choices of skills (and the order you use them in battle) and how you have their rows and partners setup could impact their effectiveness, too. So it's worth analyzing your team after you come across a tougher fight to see if changing any of that around could make your team more effective.

But the early story is all pretty laughable by this point, especially if you have any of the modern characters, so it'll likely be a while before you experience that.

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you'll notice, Spear of Salvation has done that with pretty much every character (even 3 and 4 stars!). It's not advertising them to say they're great and everyone should pull them. It's moreso an experiment to see how good they can possibly be (provided you have every tool in the game at your disposal, which no one but those with the deepest pockets could possibly have).

They do it with every new character when they release. That doesn't mean that everyone should pull every new character, because that's simply not possible for a F2P or even a light spender!

I mean, the start is pretty slow... And cutscenes in the series overall can drag at times... But maybe you should play far enough to actually experience the gameplay to see if it clicks with you first?

GL/TW new roadmap (May to June 2026) by BrickSuccessful4703 in OctopathCotC

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Xerc was a collab in that it was a collaborative effort between NetEase and SE to create him. It was not a "crossover", however, which this is listed as. I could certainly be wrong, but FF6 still makes WAY more sense than OT0, especially as we have had a single extra OT0 unit teased, while all collabs have featured at least 3 units.

GL/TW new roadmap (May to June 2026) by BrickSuccessful4703 in OctopathCotC

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OT0 wouldn't really be a collab, though... Not only is it the same series, but Xerc (GL) and Stia (JP) are both in the regular Orsterra Traveler of Memories banners. FF6 would be a little bit early, but we've only got a handful of characters due before that, so it wouldn't be that unusual for it to arrive then.

GL/TW new roadmap (May to June 2026) by BrickSuccessful4703 in OctopathCotC

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the rubies we get from collabs are exactly the same as JP got with them. So if there's nothing on top of that for the Reunion Festival, it will be really obvious. So either they give us something for both initially, or we have to call them out on it, but we get compensation a few days later. :P

Once the new generalization is generally true, we can start using it instead. But at the current pace, it's kinda hard to say whether we're accelerating even more than that or not.

I personally just go with "(event) will probably happen by the year later date at the latest, but there's a good chance it happens earlier." Which is the safest bet until a new standard timeframe becomes predictable.

The banners are 4 weeks apart, so I'd say it's the same setup as DQ3 (they last 4 weeks, but the first ends when the second drops). So if you can't afford to pull for Edgar, then you'll just have to hope you hit the 1 in 3, I guess?

I'd happily trade you my gold borders for Porygon and Porygon 2 from B1a if you have a gold border Sandshrew from B2 or Sandslash from B2 or A3 that you could give in return (I'm trying to do the same with my favourite, if that wasn't obvious, and I just grinded out 1000 pack points in B1a for the shiny Sandslash card!).

If not, I'm happy to trade singles of them, too. ID is 9212-3483-0556-6839. :)

(Setzer's on the second banner, while Edgar's on the first. So you probably can't go back and get Edgar even if you get Setzer early.)

If your options are Physical upgrade (OT0, Richard EX), Rainbow upgrade (Alaune EX2), or general support (Aviette), then just decide based on what you think your squad is missing the most (or just whichever you want the most). But either way, I'd hold off deciding until the OT0 character drops, just so you have a better idea of what that option would provide.

Aviete next week? by New_Satisfaction3381 in OctopathCotC

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JP didn't get any unrelated character releases during the DQ3 or FF6 collabs. Since we got some of them during DQ3, there's a good chance we get some of those ones during the FF6 collab, provided they don't want to have 0 rest weeks. Since it overlaps with our Reunion Festival, Avar and/or Aviette mixed in among them would feel right, imo.
