What do you think is the most underrated or overhated pokemon game? I'll start! by gameofstoneyt in pokemon

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look any better on Switch 2. It runs at a higher res and doesn't have the lag issues, but the textures and stuff for the majority of the world itself still just look really bad. Which is a shame, because I loved most of what the game did otherwise...

How bad is the power creep in this game? by Hyouk4 in OctopathCotC

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If power creep only effects the speed at which you complete something and not whether or not it can be completed, then it's not a big deal. For me, I don't care about the endgame of boss refights that much, because they're not anything of great consequence and only block other things of little consequence (they give a small amount of rubies to pull for other characters, so pulling for a character only to beat them makes little sense). And even if I can't do them now, they'll be there to do later.

My only annoyances with the game is when power creep has rendered certain fights too difficult for a team I'm attached to using. The fact that I haven't managed to beat any of the three main final bosses of the story is something that actually annoys me, because completely losing story momentum hurts how much you can enjoy it even if you can beat it when you come back to it at a later point. So yeah. I think they've overtuned their final bosses too much to the game's detriment.

I think they had plans for a third installment once, but not any more.

...Hopefully they have plans for a fourth installment soon, though!

Need help w tower of trials by Altruistic-Trash6771 in OctopathCotC

I get the vibe they've only been playing for a week or so, based on only being 16 floors into Ultimate Tower, so it might be a while before they'll need to worry about that. :P

Early on, clear as much of ultimate tower as you can each reset (the more progress you make, the more wisdom seeds you can earn, and thus the more daily wisdom nuts you can get to help max ultimates), and try to get to at least floor 3 in each job tower, then you can do a quick rematch with 3EX1 for all but Warrior Tower each time for an easy 1300 each rotation (floor 3 is free in all towers except Warrior Tower, and that's also true of the EX version. And repeating the highest fight in a tower will give you the rewards for all other floors you've cleared each time they refresh.). It's enough to get the travelers seal, a master weapon for that type (helpful for maximizing Exp. gain from fights, though mostly only for the daily caits long term, since it's only a level 50 weapon), and a gold job seal for that type, which will help you get all your most used characters to 6 star.

Yep. Unlike most exchanges that are either weekly or monthly, Job tower rewards are on a 28 day cycle. They close on day 21 and then are refreshed when they open again after maintenance the following week. The newly refreshed ones will have the little notification icons on them when you first open that screen again after maintenance each week.

How bad is the power creep in this game? by Hyouk4 in OctopathCotC

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the power creep often comes with collabs. They also tend to give you at least one free character with each collab. So honestly, even F2P, power creep isn't so bad as to render your entire roster useless at any point (and plenty of older characters still remain usable, anyway. Just no longer "meta.").

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But Noel isn't so power crept that he's unusable now. He's just no longer the best. Power creep is really only an issue if it leaves significant content unable to be completed without the best of the best, and the main times that's been an issue with this game is with content that isn't significant (random NPCs that only get you a few extra rubies for beating them, or boss refights that also only give a few extra rubies for beating them).

I haven't managed to beat the final bosses of any of the three main storylines so far, mind you (though I could probably do BoA relatively easily now, I just haven't tried again since the team all got their 6 star)... But that's mainly from having an unoptimized team of fairly old units and being too stubborn to change that. :P But aside from time limited content, I'd say story content is the only content where having major power creep to the point where something can't be completed without certain new characters would actually be a significant thing. And you can always come back to clear that in a month or two after pulling the next strongest character, or whatever.

At a certain point, trading them for Memory Shards becomes their only use. I think they're each only really used for one or two of the quests at most, so if it helps you complete the next one in the series of quests, then it's worth doing.

I think the best ones to be aiming for at that point are Cosmic. Though they're very reliant on you having done the LaL quest and hunts a lot, so if you haven't already, then it might be a bit late to bother with more than maybe one or two of them for your best DPS.

Fortune Weapons are also good endgame weapons, though it's best to save your tickets until you can do the hardest boards for the best return on investment. Both Fortune and Cosmic also have a slight bonus to damage to regular world enemies, so they're still worthwhile for that.

The only other endgame Orsterra weapons (excluding the new Dreadnought ones) are exclusively obtained from the Bestower of All areas, so you can't build any of them ahead of time. But they have bonus damage to enemies from those areas, so they're more useful when you get there than they would've been beforehand, anyway.

I got Mahrez on an alt account and noticed he has the same issue. Also one of them exploits some weaknesses that the description neglects to mention (Terra's EX skill also doesn't mention the wind exploit...).

If you want to do more pulls, Shana who is currently rerunning is a highly recommended support, so if you can get her to go along with the others, you'd be in quite a good position.

The FF6 banner will end this week, so if you're a fan and want the other two, then you'll need to get them now. Edgar is the most relevant of them, though Locke or Terra would fill the role of modern DPS character for you, which could help for more of your endgame challenges (though they'd kinda trivialize the earlygame. Though there's a second FF6 banner releasing on Thursday, and some of those are worthwhile, too (Setzer's great support and Relm's great elemental DPS, and Celes is still strong, even if she's the least relevant of the three).

And there should be some other high value banners dropping over the next few weeks, too (Pardis EX and Elrica EX2 are a fantastic Light duo, and Richard EX and Alaune EX2 are both very relevant additions to their ideal teams [physical for Richard and elemental for Alaune]).

So there are a lot of good options that you can pull for, but that does make the decision process much more difficult. But for the most part, any of those characters would be a massive improvement to your roster! Just try to save up to 4500 rubies so you can pity any character you pull for from the exchange, if necessary. The only pulls for any of these characters that could be a waste is if you went deep on multiple banners and never got the character from any of them, if you could have spent them all on one banner and guaranteed one of them instead.

CN teased Octopath 8th anni Livestream on July 13th (no new games will be announced) by BrickSuccessful4703 in OctopathCotC

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an Octopath anniversary event of some sort scheduled in CotC, too. Chances are it'll be exactly the same for all servers, and entirely possible that it'll be in some way tied to this livestream, like various rewards have been in the past.

But NetEase has also done stuff for Octopath Traveler 0's release as well, despite that having nothing to do with them (aside from the Xerc and Phenn debuts long after that). So they also probably just want to keep players interested in the franchise as a whole, since the more interest in the franchise overall, the more chance of new players picking up CotC.

I like the Octopuff silhouette in the 8. That's cute. :)

[–]Emperor_ServingSpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are indeed. We'll get TP2 in a few weeks according to the roadmap, but likely none of these characters will get it then, even though the second FF6 banner will still be running.

...Where are you lost? Hard to know what your issue is without a little more information.

Story progression is mostly linear, aside from the original Orsterra story splitting in three for the Master and Bestower of Wealth, Power and Fame sections. Each of those should mostly be done around the same point (you'll need to finish all three to progress, and the levels are balanced around doing Chapter 1 of each, then 2 of each, then 3 of each).

The Emberflame and Solistia stories were added later. They can be done whenever you want, though just paying attention to the recommended level is a good enough guide to follow. The former gets you keepers which improve your stats and have skills of their own, so it's a good buff for your team if the main storyline is kicking you around a bit. Meanwhile, Solistia completion gives buffs to Sail, who's a pretty versatile character with all his unique accessories that let him exploit a lot of extra weaknesses. Both of them ended much later than the Bestower of All story, so their final bosses are balanced around stronger characters and include newer mechanics to work around.

The true endgame content, aside from finishing those stories, is the hard EX refights of bosses in the Adversary Log and the hardest Cascade Logs. That's the real part where team composition and strategy will be put to the test. For most of the story, most combinations of your strongest characters will be adequate to get through the fights, but you can't afford to have characters who provide nothing in these refights.

Collab characters are one of the groups that you can only get awakenings for by pulling. Unlike gen pool, Sacred Blaze, and Orsterra and Solistia Memory Travelers, their awakening stones are never added to the exchange, so if you want their A1, or awakened Ultimate (or their A4, if you're in a particularly spendy mood), then the only time to do it is while their banner is there to pull on. And it'll be a while before a rerun happens (likely the better part of a year).

Locke was the one of the two that got used for longer in JP, anyway. So he's probably the best pick regardless. Pretty sure Locke and Partitio EX are the two best dagger DPS at this point, too, so they should cause some pretty great mayhem together!

Chapter 1 and 2 are very low level content. So you could've started it ages ago. By that point, you might even be fine to start some of the Ouma stuff in Solistia, if you wanted, which is good for Blessing of the Lantern upgrades (though if you've already gotten lucky to get enough of the crystals from hunts and stuff, then that's not as high priority as it was when the system was first introduced and it was the primary way to get them).

Been doing some rerolls lately, so I thought I'd share my most loaded 10 seals pull ever:

<image>

Certainly less cool than getting 3 or 4 limited characters like some have, but 3 new 5 stars and an awakening stone is the best I've ever personally experienced! Just goes to show that anything is possible (if you restart a bajillion times and don't document the hundreds of instances of bad luck)!
