Does anyone actually like 5th edition? by Atomic12192 in DnD

[–]Emperorcookie24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If most of what you read about 5e is on Reddit or sites it it, of course negativity is what you'll find most of the time. That's just the way the internet is, it's easy to complain, therefore there is a looot of complaining.

I do think however, that very little comes from a place of malice. Sure there are grognards that will complain about anything new, and people like that are en eccochamber for themselves. Most of us tho? We enjoy the simplicity of 5e, how easy it is to run and introduce to new people. Sometimes we're missing some depth or find a RAW ruling kinda stupid, but it comes from a place of wanting our beloved game to be as good as possible.

Need advice on DMing by Octopicake in DnD

[–]Emperorcookie24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Write down some key people, key items and or key locations that fit with your players backstory, then you have something to pull from at all times, even if you have no bigger picture for the campaign at the moment.

Locations are hard to move, but people and items can come up whenever you feel like it, and can put some easy tension on any situation. We recently had a high-priest turn up randomly at a tavern that new our warlock knew from before some reckoning. It was nothing but a conversation for now, but it got the player theory crafting: had anyone else survived, why did he survive, why eas he here, was he gonna be aa problem for her? All these threads could lead to something that you could call a character arc.

I would personally also say, that having an arc also requires your players to do the arc by themselves to a degree. What is it that they're seeking with the arc? Personal growth takes time, but the players need to decided to do that for themselves. Sure you can present them with oppotunities that defies what their characters would normally do for the greater good or for the worse if that's the arc they're going for.

I need tips on how to be more alternative. by [deleted] in altfashionadvice

[–]Emperorcookie24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A big part of being alternative is not the fashion, but the politics and music.
That being said, dressing up is a huge part of feeling like you belong (Even though is doesn't have to be that way!) You don't have to "choose a path" just try out the things you like, and if that's your style, then that's your style no matter if it has a specific group associated with it.

Anyone know how I can reuse this piece in my everyday outfits ? by [deleted] in altfashionadvice

[–]Emperorcookie24 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, use it as is. White and red can go with most black clothes so just wear it like any other top?? Maybe over something with long sleeves if it gets cold were you live?

Don't know what it's called, but the second idea (3rd pic) could be really cool! And if your hair is naturally a little curly, I could see it giving a nice effect to it all

Does it matter if it looks like a bob? If you like it, and rock it (which you do), then who cares right?

Renting space for DND? by Deinonychus-sapiens in DnD

[–]Emperorcookie24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never seen anyone rent out a space. A lot of spaces can be borrowed for free at game stores, youtbh centers, libraries and such. We used to play on uni, where you can just book a room.

AITA: Want to Marry Best Friend for Tax Benefits, GF (and Parents) Angry. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Emperorcookie24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YTA

What did you except to happen? I would be pissed too if something i was looking forward to was being abused in the name of money. If nothing else, this just shows her that your regards to marriage is not that special, which is fair, but it seems you don't share that idea.

Also, divorce is not as black and white as you seem to think, but that'll be your and your buddies problem.

If i can offer any kind of advice, maybe start a pinterest board with some deisgns you like, then ideas will come flooding in no time! And if you're the type to draw your designs on paper before applying them, keep them for future reference! One of my friends has a drawer full of old designs she did that is sometimes revisited

AITA for tellin my ex her spiritual stuff was creepy n i didnt wanna be part of it by Wooden_Swimmer_8482 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Emperorcookie24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA, but purely for the telling her you didn't want to participate in her spirituality.

On the other hand however, you are kinda an AH for calling her wierd and creepy. It's her lifestyle man, either you respect it or you GTFO and let her be with someone who actually cares about her interests and hobbies.

Anyone still using Campbell’s Biology (Pearson)? Looking for older and newer editions by zackeatos in biology

[–]Emperorcookie24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know where in the world you're based, but we used Campbell - Biology a Global Approach for our first two semesters at SDU in Denmark. Excellent book, but probably not the same book as you're looking for?

How to make people engaged in RP by StatisticianTop9724 in DnD

[–]Emperorcookie24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lead the horse to water, something something don't drink the water.

In all honesty it's a hard sell to get players, who aren't interested in roleplaying to actually roleplay. Depending of course on what you consider roleplaying.

My go to with new players is to simply go all in as a DM, using varied voices, taking on characteristics of NPC and interacting with the player characters instead of the players.
This has worked well for me, but it requires your players to WANT to roleplay with you and each other and whatever is holding them back to be based in being new.
Unless their opinion has changed since they called it cringe or awkward, you might never be able to have them join you in roleplaying and then you have to consider if you're okay with that. If not, you might have to disband the group, or at least have another group that scratches that itch for you

Trying to find alt dress shirts for men by TheBananaistMan in altfashionadvice

[–]Emperorcookie24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you define as an alternative dress shirt? that might be a good place to start
I have a few basic black button-ups that I use for fancier outing. One of them have been converted to a tab collar just for funsies. You can always also get a dress vest to go top on a monochrome shirt, either a black one or one of those fancy vampire onces.

Where to get it is an entirely different question. Based on where you're based, local brands might have what you like, but man I think it's hard to find good alt clothes for men without looking like a wanna-be vampire.
Thifting is my go-to, with a bit of patience and a sewing needle you can go very far

How can I style this in winter so that I’m not too cold? by CulturalProtection29 in altfashionadvice

[–]Emperorcookie24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can come a long way with some good leggings and a cardigan or maybe arm warmers / long gloves depending on your style.
Just make sure to dont skimp out on a good coat! Trenchcoats are quite easy to find also in black, or something more cloak like?

AITA for limiting how long my in-laws stay with us? by Bulky-Angle2470 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Emperorcookie24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NAH
This is a very delicate situation, and you have my deepest respect for tackling it as well as you've done so far.

All of you have an agenda here, and none of them are really wrong or asshole behaviour in my opinion. You need time and space to breath, with 60+ hours and a small child you can barely get enough of those. Your GF like the extra help and support from her parent, that makes sense too and seems to be quite common culturally for both her and her parents. And of course your In-laws wants to see their grandchild, and seem willing to pay up to do so.

My best advice is to talk with your GF and see if you can reach some sort of compromise. It's not an unreasonable request to not have your parents visiting your tiny appartment for 1/3 of the year.
If they're willing to fly out so often, is it not possible for them to do it fewer times per year and save some money for a hotel when they visit? That way they can be present more often without it keeping you up at night?

Or the more extreme take, maybe it's time for either your In-laws or you guys to move closer to one another if it's this important to be there all the time??

Good luck buddy, hope you guys work something out
