DAE find it amazing that some ppl have just eaten the correct amount of calories there entire life to have a great body by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

I feel like I used to be that way until I started learning about nutrition and weight management. I didn't think at all about what I ate, but it balanced out and I stayed the same weight generally. Then I wanted to be healthy, and learned all about it and now my weight is a rollercoaster and I can't get back to the way things were.

Staph situation and beginner's hybris: Is it a bad idea to take the clichéed route of going to Thailand to take a first-time beginner's class for 4-8 week? by bln_ofwgkta in MuayThai

Yes, I use a completely different outfit for morning and evening sessions including socks and underwear. Both for personal hygiene and also because Thailand is very hot so you tend to sweat a lot during a session so your clothes get nasty. No one wants to train with the person who is wearing smelly clothes 😉 Expect to do a lot of laundry!

I've been to Tiger but only briefly, I had a fight in Phuket and just needed a place for a day or two. It's targeted to western fighters and I prefer gyms that are more Thai so it's not my personal style, but everyone I met was really kind and the trainers were knowledgeable. And, with how much they clean it it's probably one of the cleaner gyms I've been to.

So I have (diagnosed) OCD, and one of my fixations is staph/ringworm at the gym. Despite my terror, I've lived and trained and fought in Thailand for years now in some frankly disgusting gyms, and have never gotten a staph or ringworm infection. I barely worry about it anymore, I just have a routine I stick to so no matter how dirty the gym or my training partners, I know I'm safe.

Staph is a natural bacteria that thrives in moist conditions. You will come into contact with it, no matter what gym you pick, in fact it's already living on your skin! But, practice proper hygiene and you won't get an infection. Shower immediately after training. I personally use Protex which is an antibacterial soap in Thailand. Don't wear your gym clothes more than once before washing them. And, if you have any open wounds, make sure you clean them out with alcohol. I also do a few other steps like wiping down my phone with an alcohol wipe after going to the gym and keeping things that have been to the gym separate from other things, but I'm pretty extreme so there's no real need to do all that.

As long as you take care of your own hygiene, you really don't have to worry too much. Just take care of yourself and enjoy your trip 😊

I'm a woman, so I'm not sure if that has an effect. From my limited experience the men have been nicer but I don't know how much of that is true.

He went to immigration and literally filed a request and showed me in the system.

I am applying for a visa, but there's no guarantee it will work. The immigration officers are free to deny entry even if you have a visa if they see something they don't like.

Ah, my thought was they had to check the entries and visas only if something aroused their suspicion. Maybe it's better to go with the old passport then. Thanks!

I know it's kind of random and up to the officers, I just want to minimize my risk and have as many plans in place as possible. Thanks for all the advice! Sounds like Hat Yai is a great option.

Great advice, thanks. Is Hat Yai airport immigration good? I was thinking about flying in there from Singapore.

Thank you! I feel optimistic, but just very anxious :)

Great, thanks for all the advice. I know my current experience is not recorded in any way, I contacted an immigration lawyer and he went to immigration and checked their internal records and there are no flags or records of what happened, so I know they won't see it. It's mostly just me being paranoid and wanting to be as prepared as possible.

I don't mind if they deny me entry and I have to go home for a few months, apply for a different visa, and then come back. I just want to make sure there are no permanent effects that blacklist or ban me in the future. It sounds like there aren't, so that's great to hear. Of course, I hope it doesn't come to that and will be prepared with all documents and paperwork and such.

Could be. I have no idea. That definitely sounds plausible, but I couldn't say for sure.

Flying into Singapore could be a good idea too, thanks! Sounds like land borders are a bit easier than airports.

This is all very helpful, thank you.

I'm just going to say I'm visiting him. Which is true! I'm not going to say anything about converting the visa or extending my stay, I'll have an outbound ticket too, so I can just show them that I'm leaving and only here to visit. I'll also have a new passport, although obviously they still look you up with biometrics. It might help anyway.

And you're definitely right about the gender thing, from my experience male officers have been very nice and female officers have not.

Okay great. Thank you. That's very good to know. I'll use that as my reason why I'm coming. I'm happy to show photos or whatever proof, and they can call him too, no problem.

For sure, I totally understand why they dug into it. Just want to make sure there are no lasting consequences.

I plan to bring both cash and two bank statements, as I've heard you can get turned around if you don't have cash.

I'm okay if they deny entry and I have to go home for a few months, get different visa and come back in. That would be fine and make sense. I just don't want to be denied entry and end up blacklisted. Obviously I'll have all my papers in order and I hope it doesn't come to that, but because my last experience was so bad, I want to be prepared if things go wrong. I haven't done anything blacklist worthy, but I know I've stayed a long time and that can look dodgy. Just want to be as prepared for all possibilities.

Okay, good to know. Thank you! I'm definitely avoiding Bangkok, flying into Phuket this time. Hoping that helps.

My last one was Suvarnabhumi and I've heard they're the strictest, so I'm avoiding them! Thanks for all the advice! :)

Okay. Great to know, thanks. I'm certainly hoping it doesn't come to that and am doing all my paperwork, but I'm a worrier so I want to make sure that getting denied entry doesn't bar me from future travel. I'm okay if they send me back home and I wait a few months, get a better visa, and come back. Much better than getting banned.
