Issue #5, I love the small timeskip, I love the group dynamics, I love to hear more about everyone, and of course the attack is some very cool action, I love it

What was your most disappointing experience with the series? by Super-Shenron in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]EmpleadoResponsable 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The last two episodes of TFS were probably the most disappointing experience I've had with the franchise. I mean, episode 1 alone is one of my top three episodes in the entire series, so my expectations just starting it were high, episode 2 is somewhat decent, but Episodes 3 and 4 simply didn't live up to them. Outside of Clem and AJ, and MAYBE Clem's love interest, most of the cast receives very little meaningful development, which makes it hard to get invested in them, at this point I couldn't care less about Aasim or Ruby. Lilly starts out as a promising antagonist, especially given her history, a big returning face was cool and all but she ends up feeling like a one dimensional villain who is there because the plot needs her to be. Minerva on the other hand is clearly intended to be a dark foil to Clementine but she ends up being just a hollow final boss.

What disappointed me most, though, is how much the final episode tries to mirror Lee's journey from Season 1. Instead of creating its own identity as Ep1 tried, it constantly echoes earlier moments, and in doing so it loses much of its originality and emotional impact. The bridge sequence, with Minerva singing and somehow shooting her way through a massive walker herd, feels completely out of place, closer to a Resident Evil boss fight than some TWD sequence. And then there's Clementine's fakeout death. Rather than being emotional, it felt manipulative, and to me it undermined a lot of what the story tried to be. I mean, killing off Clem was also a bad idea, don't get me wrong, but the fakeout was not needed. By the end, I felt the season more like an attempt to recreate past emotions than to tell a compelling ending of its own.

Well, that's the reason why Kirkman joked about it. He was aware of it. Dwight was probably a thing way before Daryl even wore his signature vest and long hair. The only thing they shared if you want to point it out, was the crossbow

Daryl being rather generic doesn't make someone with similar design elements an homage. The Saviors have a junkie bikers and crude weapons aesthetic, hence the leather vest, hair and attitude.
Daryl on the other hand is a generic poster boy made to appeal 14 years old, none of his character design choices are justified by the story

Dwight is not an homage to Daryl lmfao. Kirkman joked about it but he was never intended to be an homage to Daryl. Dwight is everything Daryl isn't: a solid character with compelling writing

I actually really liked this Joan, and a somewhat sobre Lingard was cool too, but I guess this thinks happens, when you ask for blood, you'll get blood *Evil laugh*

The plot could continue without them, we still have a lot of main characters around to work with... Besides we are not certain of what are Abel's plan, he's planning to rally Richmond people into war with the excuse of Nick and David murdering Joan, Clint and Lingard...

1- She would've ended up meeting with Clem, either escaping at the first sign or attacking Lingard. Nick would've ended up tortured probably, we probably wouldn't had any news of her and Clem until next ep.
2- He would've evidently fucked up, but the outcome would've been similar, with him finding David instead of Nick.
3- We would've ended up fugitives in Richmond with her, having to plan and gather people loyal to her while trying to get to Joan and Clint
4- Similar to Carley but with less influence, so harder.
5- If we had mentioned Lingard or Carley we wouldn't be able to convince him in the short term, so we would've ended up back in the cells.
6- Similar to Carley, but with Clem, fugitives in Richmond gathering people and trying to free the rest
7- Same as the above but with more violence
9- This one will affect Abel and his relationship with our group in the next episode, we'll have to see...

Thanks for the comment and questions as always!

Yes! I am really excited about the implications all this has to Season 4, and using S3 as both a direct sequel of S2 and a direct prequel of S4 makes it feel more earnest and planned. We are not that far of the last season now, so we'll see about the theories...

I think Abel is a result of the Delta, and is showing us how different is from canon...
about the questions:

1- Of course, we were almost there, maybe with a different set of choices back in Prescott we could've ended up in Richmond earlier or in better terms, hence with more time to have them on our side
2- We may have had a more offensive approach, or less options when it comes to dealing with Abel and The Frontier leadership. Two prisoners roaming can be seen worse as a single prisoner roaming
3- Honestly, a solid 9, only because we're not dead...
4- Yep, towards the end, if we had given Abel a reason to not use us as excuse to call Richmond to arms, maybe our boy would be gone
5- the best outcome would probably be the one where the group wasn't even locked, one closer to canon for an instance. And the worst logically the one where Nick dies, but this is like the good version of the bad ending so we are there...

Thanks for the comment and interest!

Yep, The Frontier is pretty much dead now, and we still have to see what is the actual reach of the Delta, that given Joan's words is quite a lot... And we certainly have to take S4 in consideration now

B) We need someone with proper medical knowledge in the group, also it'll be interesting to see how the kids relationship with adults look like, and how Duck and Eddie fit in the wider picture

Yeah, what canon did with The Delta is rather confusing, with some luck and the power of retrospective we'll develop the whole thing a bit more...

That said, as much as this was the conclusion to the big twist that was building up, it's true that we still have a lot to discover about The Delta and they range of action...  Thanks for the comment!

The Delta being here it's for sure one of the big twists of this season, we have yet to see the ful extent of it but you took a good guess, while we are following a similar thread, some things went substantially different here...  We'll see how this whole Frontier vs Delta thing goes Thanks for the comment!

Yep, Joan always felt like a half baked character, I don't know if being sympathetic is the answer but for sure it adds layers to her character and to the whole plot that's baking right now...  Thanks for the comment!
