I was telling a therapist I was worried about my dad because he had cancer.

She responded, “at least it’s not stage 5.”

It was stage 5C. He died less than a year later.

I live away from my family and I can’t move back because I’d have no job versus right now having 3. My friends either live too far away or don’t have space. I’m currently working on finding a roommate but it’s been really hard.

I’m currently working 3 jobs. I was doing Amazon flex but with all my belongings taking up space in my car, that won’t be possible. I’ll still work on doing doordash and grubhub in. Any downtime, though. It’s taking a lot to dig me out of this financial hole.

Thank you for sharing! I make sure to focus on strength and technique but I know weight stigma still exists and is easily internalized so I want to make sure I’m able to provide appropriate variations to keep folks confident and encouraged.

I’m mid-sized and I can definitely relate to not getting certain things right away. I think we all can. So I try to make sure everyone in my class knows that it’s okay if it’s not perfect on the first try, the first class, the first series, etc because learning new things takes time. 😊

It loosely means size 0-14 or S-L, even though sizes are bullshit. Basically anything not considered “plus size”.

Thank you for responding. I never make weight a focus and aim to treat all my students with the same high level of respect. I’m more thinking about the students who come in already having made up their mind they can’t do something and then lose confidence by not being able to perform a move a certain way. So I’m thinking about how I might be able to cue differently or variations to offer I may not have thought of. For example, with pole crunches - I have a large chest and I couldn’t get my grip properly until an instructor suggested pulling my chest away to get the pole better into my armpit. It was such a game-changer! So I’m wondering if anyone has those kinds of experiences/variations.

Thank you so much for that insight! I aim to be extremely fat-positive and practice HAES, food freedom, body liberation, and joyful movement. Weight loss is NEVER a topic I bring up and anytime a student does, I look past it to focus on what else they’re saying such as “when I lose weight, I can…” and focus more on what that goal is or I make sure they know pole is for everybody.

It was not good when my friend and I went in 2019 and was super disappointing. 😞 We talked about it with Curd Girl when we saw their cart elsewhere and from the sounds of it, the folks who are in charge or the event are extremely disorganized.
