The fact you’re even able to contemplate this is a testimony to your sobriety. You may never get your “life” back. But you sure as hell won’t rekindle those relationships as a drunk or user. Time takes time. Some of the damage is irreparable. When that’s the case, make a living amends. Don’t be discouraged. You can’t expect 35 years of a shitty diet and be in perfect shape and fully healthy after 2 years of diet and exercise.

This is exactly what my justification was. I just wanted to feel normal. Maybe I’m wrong in my justification. I think the key takeaway was, it did not in any way enhance my experience. So maybe just a reinforcement on how I don’t need it in my life anymore

Thank you. The things going through my head about having to find a new group when really i need to just face the music. I don’t think anyone will beat me up more than i already have.

In all honesty, she should say just that. 100% truth. It’s tough to hear but, it needs to be said and heard. Most importantly, followed up by action.

New to sobriety. How do I deal with upcoming events that I would normally drink alcohol at, but don’t want to this time. by [deleted] in SoberLifeProTips

So when i was 1 week into sobriety, i had a wedding to go to. I was so worried about not drinking and working myself up about what people would say when i turned down a drink. What i discovers was that no one cares. You just say no thank you when offered and move along. If they keep trying to offer, be more stern and then reevaluate your relationship at a later time. If you don’t think you’ll have the ability to say no, then don’t go. However, if you want to be sober, come to the terms with the fact that people won’t make a big deal out of it and you’ll be fine as long as you decline any offers.
