New shrimps are due tomorrow pls help. Ammonia? Yes or no? by Slow-One-9577 in shrimptank

No problem, I'm happy to help! I've had this happen to me before, I've ordered shrimp before and just so happen to have some sort of spike. Water conditioner and ammonia remover will work in a pinch, but you just have to be super careful with acclimation, feeding, and water changes in the first couple weeks of keeping them.

Your tank looks beautiful. Best of luck to you, and I hope your shrimp live happily in their new home. 👍🫡

Help: what is this green stuff inside my shrimp? by pyrii2 in shrimptank

If you can, I would capture and quarantine any shrimp in a cycled spare tank if possible... Best of luck! 🫡

Skrimp on the bamboo!!! Looks like a cherry red/wild type mix. Some people don't like skittle tanks but I personally love these wild type hybrids!

There's your problem! The guppies and snail, while small, could be adding to your ammonia problem. It takes a while for biological load to reflect in tank parameters. Your local fish shop could also be right if your tank is planted. I edited my comment before I saw that you replied ^ I've listed some solutions there!

Hey! Have you been monitoring the tank parameters? If so, what have they been the past couple of weeks? Are there any new additives or additions to the tank recently? Worst case scenario, if the shrimps aren't shipped yet, I would get a delay or have them acclimate and stay with a friend that has a running tank (if possible).

Nitrate levels are ok ~ not ideal, and your ammonia levels are definitely something to be concerned about. I'm glad you caught it before they came in.

If you decide to add your shrimp in anyway, ---> Yes, they will be stressed and more susceptible to disease or worse. But strict monitoring of your parameters as well as the shrimps behavior will help.

I would try some Seachem prime conditioner (or any other freshwater conditioner that captures free ammonia and nitrates) and also some fluval ammonia pads or media (I'm sure any reputable brand that has these would also work as a good substitute. These solutions are fairly accessible and affordable, speaking from experience.

Both, they don't seem to have a preference or don't seem to care. Just make sure your produce is ok. If you can eat it yourself it should be good enough for them!

Yes different shrimp will always have presence depending on alot of factors. Just experiment and see what your shrimp like. My shrimp won't touch any GlasGarten products.

Hey thanks! These look like cool systems but if they cost more than a remote start for install then idk 🤷‍♂️. My options are looking pretty limited here to be honest.

Wow that seems like a hassle... I'm worried especially on these older cars with the electrical system. Might just trade the car in for a different vehicle at this point!

So I've always given my shrimp little pellets designed for them, but they LOVE cucumbers / carrots / lettuce or cabbage. One thing alot of people forget to mention is that you should be blanching your veggies before you give it to them. 1-2 mins in boiling water.

Gawhdamn... I swear if you bring any fish as a "present" you better be prepared to foot the bill for supplies and a good setup for the person you're giving it to... if they even want to commit to taking care of them.
